The news was released on Friday’s midnight. Paulo Assunção has canceled his contract with Deportivo. His link with the club was ending in 2015. It’s part of the measures to fulfill the obligations of the salary cap rule.

Centre midfielder Paulo Assunção no longer belongs to Deportivo. He canceled his contract, lasting until 2015, during Friday’s night. It was something expected as the club is trying to stabilize the wages at the first team in order to fulfill the salary cap rule.

Deportivo previously cancelled the contracts of centre-backs Aythami Artiles and Ze Castro for this reason and also transferred winger Bruno Gama. The departure of these four players was demanded by the club’s administrators.

But it seems that more exits will be needed in order to fulfill the salary cap rule, at least it is the complaint of the club as president Lendoiro was negotiating with the administrators and la liga the possibility to extend the salary cap at Depor calculated in five million Euros.

It has been reported that another exit that can be negotiated is the one of left-back Ayoze Díaz. Coach Fernando Vázquez stated on Thursday that the club needed to recalculate the situation and that they will also need to make sacrifices in order to allow the arrival of two new strikers.

Assunção landed at Deportivo during the last winter transfer window; he was the third signing during the period and arrived from Brazil trying to have an impact at midfield, but was swallowed by the downward spiral at the beginning of the second round.

He was a starter with Domingos and in the first games with Fernando Vázquez, but never showed anything special and later the Galician coach opted for the couple Abel Aguilar and Juan Dominguez, so the role of the ex-Atletico player was to stay on the bench and sometimes he was even out of the list of picked players.
