Problems for Fernando Vázquez at the centre of the defense; Uxío is practically off, while Kaká isn’t at 100%. Marchena is still lacking match fitness. Borja Bastón was also dragging a muscle problem.

Unusual week for Deportivo; the Copa Del Rey match against Córdoba CF altered the planning ahead of the Liga visit to Sporting Gijón (El Molinón, Sunday, 17h00 CET). To the point that on Thursday the team was divided in two groups at the hour of the training.

Since the eighteen players that traveled to Andalusian landed in A Coruña until early in the morning it was decided that they should go to the Riazor in order to train on the pitch and later at the gym, meanwhile the players that weren’t picked for the clash, including normal starters Culio, Rudy and Arizmendi, were all training at Abegondo during a more intense session. By Friday the team was reunited and worked at the Riazor.

Coach Fernando Vázquez is facing a big problem at the centre of the defense. Uxío Marcos broke his nose during the match at the Nuevo Arcángel, the doctors decided that he will be operated until next week and it was expected he could be available wearing a mask, but on Friday he skipped the training as he was ill.

Meanwhile, Kaká joining the trainings on this week, but the coaching staff hasn’t decided yet if he’ll be picked for the game or not. Initially it was expected the Brazilian was going to be out for at least two weeks due to an adductor muscle injury. The other centre-back at the team, Carlos Marchena, is still lacking match fitness. Neither these three players haven’t been ruled out of the game, but there’s the possibility the three of them could be off , so the coach could have to improvise at the moment of choosing the partner of Pablo Insua. Other possibility is to pick Stefan Deák or Enrique Fornos from Fabril. Both youngsters trained on Friday with the first team.

Another player that has been dragging physical problems is striker Borja Bastón. At the beginning of the week he was training apart, the Madrilenian was picked for the Copa clash with Córdoba CF, but didn’t take part of the game as a precatory measure. In any case the doctors expect he could be fit to play for Sunday. Playmaker Juan Carlos was dragging physical problems too after completing the 120 minutes in Copa, but on Friday he was already fine. Finally, right winger Antonio Núñez completed his first training session on Friday.

At Sporting Gijón, coach Ramón Sandoval lived a similar situation during this week, because his team had to travel to Andalusia and also played extra time in their Copa Del Rey game against Recreativo de Huelva after ending 2-2 in the regular time, but in the case of the Asturians they were eliminated after leaking a goal six minutes before the end of the second extra time.

The Madrilenian coach only used a one regular start in liga during the Copa match: right-back Luis Hernández. But the 120 minutes of action also left physical problems at the team. Sporting B centre-back Julio César Rodríguez was replaced at minute 77 with a Soleus muscle problem, his substitute was Armando Sosa ‘Mandi’, a normal starter in liga that also ended injured (hip). Meanwhile, midfielder Formose Mendy suffered a blow in the face. These three players aren’t ruled out of Sunday’s meeting, though only Mandi has solid chances of playing the game.

Striker Santi Jara was sent off during the Copa clash, but his suspension only applies on this competition, so he will be available against Depor. There are three players out of the match as they’re dragging injuries: midfielders Ignacio 'Nacho' Cases (knee sprain) and Mali Adama Toure (Achilles), plus playmaker Alejandro Serrano García (ankle sprain)
