Deportivo B dropped two points in a match in which they never felt comfortable despite having the advantage in the major part of the game. The team could even have lost the match. Fabril living outside the promotion zone.

Coach José Luis Devesa is getting used to the long list of casualties at his team. Playmaker Bicho and centre midfielder Teles were concentrated with the first team and this time left-back Aarón Rama was injured while centre-back Uxío Marcos remained sidelined. At least winger Cañi and goalkeeper David Gómez were already fine.

The starting lineup was a 4-2-3-1 formation; David Gómez was defending the goal, Jorge Callón was the right-back defender, Adrián Martinez performed on the left, Serbian Stefan Deák and Enrique Fornos were the centre-backs, Sidibé and Ángel Fernández were the centre midfielders, Álex Pérez played on the right wing, Romay was the playmaker, Cañi attacked from the left flank and Dani Iglesias was the central attacker.

The rival was CD As Pontes, a classical team from the Galician group of Tercera that arrived to the meeting as one of the four undefeated teams on this start of season (three wins and two draws). The main reference at the team coached by Manolo Garcia is playmaker David Amado, who is the top-scorer at the team with three goals added to his tally. Javier Rochela, the brother of ex-Depor David Rochela, was a starter in the game.

Only a few times it will be possible to see a Fabril’s team outplayed by the rival in a meeting disputed at Abegondo; and it’s that the team coached by Devesa never felt comfortable and could even had lost the game. The tactic of As Pontes regarding putting pressure to Romay was effective enough to disarm the offensive approach of Deportivo B. The youngsters suffered at the end of the first half and the situation got worse in the second part.

CD As Pontes demonstrated that it should be considered as a candidate to the promotion seats; at Abegondo the team showed a solid strategy and, especially, the maturity to overcome the problems. And it’s that Depor B got an early advantage as Oumar Sidibé scored a wonderful goal. He got the ball outside the area and unleashed an impressive high volley that was impossible for visiting goalie Francisco Mariño ‘Kiko’.

Just six minutes later the visiting team lost winger Sergio Díaz ‘Chicho’ due to an injury, but they managed to claim control of the actions in the last stretch of the first half. With Sergio and David Amado attacking by the sides, Fabril’s defense felt uncomfortable and never found the outcome with the ball as Romay was well marked by Nano.

In this way it wasn’t strange to see the visiting side having the best opportunities at the end of the half, Pablo Dominguez was close to score with a shot that was saved by Callón at the goal line, later David Gómez deflected the attempt of Sergio Arias and the ball hit the woodwork and then went out.

For the second half Devesa ordered a double modification, Róber replaced Callón and Álvaro Queijeiro claimed the spot of a disappeared Romay.  The latter modification didn’t improve the performance of the team, actually Depor B was worse in this half and never created a sense of danger before a rival that was growing.

So, it wasn’t surprising when As Pontes scored the deserved equalizer at the middle of the second part. Juan Manuel Pena ‘Bossa’ threw a lateral free-kick and Jorge López ‘Nano’ scored the goal from close range with a diving header.

Thirty minutes were remaining and both sides sought to win the game, so the last stretch was entertaining. Dani Iglesias was close to score in the best action for the locals as his header passed close to the crossbar. Nine minutes before the end Remeseiro replaced Ángel as Devesa was looking for fresh ideas.

But what he found was a polemic action with two doubtful decisions; in the first Róber tried to cut a counterattack, he missed to touch the ball but neither hit the rival, who exaggerated the foul, still referee García Parada understood it was an aggression and showed a direct red card. In the resulting free-kick David Gómez committed a huge error as he couldn’t catch the shot of Bossa, up to three rivals arrived to the goal line and pushed the ball in, but the play was disallowed due to a doubtful offside (86’).

Second straight draw for Deportivo B; it’s also the second straight opportunity in which the team claims the lead on the scoresheet to end conceding a goal that cost two points. The team never felt comfortable before a serious rival and it showed its current dependency of Romay. with the last two results the team has passed from been the leader to lie at the sixth position, one point below the promotion zone. On next weekend Depor B visit Betanzos CF, a team with an unstable start of season.

Comments of Devesa: “We should have created more danger, a lot more. The team needs to have a different spirit. When it doesn’t have the ball possession then it should have a different spirit and also when it has it. In some points of the second half we had some arrival, but must create more chances. You cannot expect the rivals will give you anything for free. You need to provoke it.”
