Five players that last year performed with Fabril have debuted on this season at Segunda, the list is extended to eight youngsters taking in mind the Copa Del Rey clash against Córdoba. It’s the highest number in 29 years.

The season is just starting, but coach Fernando Vázquez has already allowed the debut of five Fabril’s players in the league tournament. The last one was Paulo Teles; the Portuguese centre midfielder played the last four minutes of the past game at the Riazor against CD Mirandés. Previously he had already debuted in Copa facing Córdoba CF.

Before, striker Luis Fernández debuted with the first team as he was one of the two Fabril’s players promoted on a permanent basis to the first squad –the other is Pablo Insua, who debuted last season with the senior team-

The other three youngsters of Deportivo B that have played in league with the first team are striker Dani Iglesias, playmaker Javier Fernández Abruñedo ‘Bicho’ and centre-back Uxío Marcos. These three players normally train with the first team and play at Segunda when the coach needs to cover the empty slots.

The number of debutants can be extended to eight taking in mind the Copa Del Rey. Depor already played the second round in a one-leg series facing Córdoba CF. In that game other three youngsters had their first minutes with the first team: winger Jesús Cañizares ‘Cañi’, plus centre-backs Stefan Deák and Enrique Fornos.

It’s necessary to go back to the season 1984/85 in order to find a larger number of debutants at Deportivo. At the time Arsenio Iglesias was the coach and by matchday 02 there was a big strike in Spain affecting Primera and Segunda División. So, the matchday on September 9, 1984 was disputed with youngsters coming out from Juveniles.

Just on that day 10 players debuted with the first team: keepers Ramón Calvo and Joaquín Pérez, defenders Juan Manuel Varela ´Juanito’ and Enrique Barbolla; midfielders Luis Vázquez ‘Fisquelas’, Chema and Cipriano Pozas; plus strikers Andrés Ramos, Modest Mendez ‘Pupi’, José Castreje and Fachal. The list of debutants was extended to eleven players on that season as defender Álex Díaz debuted on matchday 32.
