Pablo Insua is close to become into the recently promoted player with more minutes in his first year during this century. He’s a fixed piece at Fernando Vázquez’s defense and even scored two goals that brought six points.

2013 has been the perfect year for Pablo Insua. He debuted with the first team in November of 2012 at San Mamés, one year later he’s a fixed piece at Depor’s defense, even an important resource in attack as his two goals helped to scratch six points (the winning goals against UD Las Palmas and Recreativo de Huelva).

The Arzua-born defender debuted with the first team on November 25, 2012. The casualties hitting the first squad forced former coach Oltra to use him for the visit to Athletic Bilbao. Totally he made four official appearances during last season, three in liga and one in Copa Del Rey, for a total of 191 minutes.

For the present season coach Fernando Vázquez decided to promote him on a permanent basis –though he remains inscribed as a B team player- and now is a fixed player at the starting lineup. He only missed the visit to Barcelona B after been called by Spain U21 squad. He already played 1,033 minutes in 12 matches, which is the 5th best mark at the first team, only below Lux, Laure, Álex Bergantiños and Juan Dominguez.

During this century only two former Fabril players had more minutes in their first official season with the first team: Laure & Piscu. Adrián López ‘Piscu’ officially debuted on 2007/08 and completed 15 league appearances for a total of 1,350 minutes, while Laureano Sanabria ‘Laure’ did it on the season 2008/09 making 14 league appearances for a total of 1,179 minutes. Insua can break both marks before ending the first round.

Unspoken is one of his characteristics, because during the press conferences and interviews he only says a few words, like on this week when a reporter was comparing his importance to the one had by Colotto; he just answered that, “Let’s hope I can be like him, matching his numbers in corner-kicks and set-pieces.”

His shy behavior outside the pitch is just the opposite of his solid performance during the games, without doubt one of the reasons why Depor are having a solid season at defense. Actually it was already rumoured that teams like Real Madrid already noticed his presence, though in this case it is to reinforce the B squad in their terrible Segunda season. However Fernando Vázquez already ruled out the possibility of transferring the player during the winter window.
