Problems for Fernando Vázquez ahead of the visit to El Toralin; there are five confirmed casualties for the game and the coach will have to pick three players coming from Fabril in order to fill up the gaps.

Deportivo has been struck recently by the injuries, a big problem taking in mind the short squad of coach Fernando Vázquez. The most worrying thing is that the major part of them are mid-term cases, which means that the players will begin to return until late in December.

Ahead of the visit to SD Ponferradina (El Toralin, Sunday, 18h15 CET) Vázquez is having five confirmed casualties. Winger Álvaro Lemos (knee) continues progressing and is already making exercises on the pitch. During the week he was training together with the other injured players, on Wednesday’s Depor’s coach stated that he should join the normal trainings in February.

Meanwhile, midfielder Cezary Wilk (toe fracture) and right-back Laureano Sanabria ‘Laure’ (adductor) remain sidelined and their return isn’t expected until December. The latest case hitting Deportivo is winger Antonio Núñez. He played in the game against RCD Mallorca and ended with a knock on his right leg, the latest scans detected a grade-one muscle injury and Vázquez already ruled out the player for at least three weeks.

Finally, centre-back Kaká has improved from his back problems, but won’t join the trainings until next week, reason why he will miss Sunday’s match. The situation could have been worse as there were other two players dragging physical problems. Right-back Manuel Pablo skipped Wednesday’s training due to pharyngitis, while keeper German Lux didn’t end the session after been hit with the ball on his left knee.

But both players were already fine on Thursday and completed the training session. In any case Vázquez only has fifteen players available at the first team, so he will need to pick three players from Fabril in order to fill up the gaps.

Playmaker Bicho and centre midfielder Paulo Teles will probably be two of them. In recent weeks both have been part of the list of picked players; actually they were part of the team for last Sunday’s win over RCD Mallorca. The other Fabril’s youngsters that have been training with the team during this week are keeper David Gómez, centre-backs Uxío Marcos and Enrique Fornos, wingers Jesús Cañizares ‘Cañi’ and Óscar García, plus striker Dani Iglesias.

Within the last month SD Ponferradina have been dealing with big problems regarding the injuries; for the game against Real Madrid Castilla coach Claudio Barragán had six casualties and with a squad only composed by twenty-two men he had to pick players from the Juvenile level. So, it isn’t strange that they only picked five of the last sixteen points in dispute.

Now these problems are forgotten, because for the game against Depor the only casualty is winger Saúl Fernández, the former player of Deportivo is injured since the pre-season and needed a surgery on both ankles. It isn’t clear when he will return.

The last two injury cases were centre midfielder José Manuel Rueda (muscle problem) and left winger Marcos García ’Marquitos’ (ankle sprain). Both players missed the previous game against CD Lugo, but they were starters during Wednesday’s game against CD Numancia (0-1).

The game against CD Numancia was the final for the Castile & Leon federation tournament; for the game Claudio only used three starters for the last game in liga: left-back Javier Carpio, centre-back Samuel San José and centre midfielder Juande Prados. The other players were rested for the game against Depor.
