THINKING OF CD LUGO

28 Nov 2013
Fernando Vázquez is pending to know if Laure will be available, while the other four injured players remain sidelined. CD Lugo are recovering Renella and Pablo Álvarez, so their only casualty for the visit to the Riazor is Víctor Marco, who’s suspended.

On Tuesday, Deportivo began the preparations for the Galician meeting against CD Lugo (Riazor, Saturday, 18h00 CET). On Wednesday coach Fernando Vázquez witnessed how right-back Laure advanced in his recovery process from an adductor injury as he was already training with the group. His return was expected to occur until the middle of December, but he completed the session without a problem. However, the Madrilenian defender doesn’t have the medical okay to play, so it isn’t sure if he will be available for Saturday.

Last week the coach said that centre-back Kaká (back injury) was going to join the trainings on these days, but in the end the Brazilian remains sidelined. Centre midfielder Cezary Wilk (toe fracture) remains training at the gym, while wingers Álvaro Lemos (knee) and Antonio Núñez (muscle) were already training over the grass, though separated from the group.

Luisinho suffered a knock during Wednesday’s session, reason why he didn’t end the training, but the Portuguese player should be fit for Saturday’s game. In this way, pending on what can happen with Laure, Vázquez will at least have four casualties for the match, so he will have to rely in the Fabril’s players in order to complete the list of eighteen players.

Centre midfielder Paulo Teles and playmaker Bicho are the main choices for the job, though wingers Cañi and Óscar Garcia, striker Dani Iglesias, plus centre-backs Uxío Marcos and Quique Fornos were also training with the first team.

At CD Lugo, coach Quique Setién saw how his team cut an undefeated streak of six straight matches in the home defeat against Sporting Gijón 1-3), but now he has almost a full squad available for the visit to the Riazor. Within the last two months he has missed several players, mainly in attack, but now all of them are available.

Striker Vincenzo Rennella, the top scorer at the team with six goals added to his tally, has been out for the past three weeks with a muscle injury, but played nineteen minutes against Sporting and is available to face Depor.

Ex-Deportivo winger Pablo Álvarez is also available after surpassing an adductor injury that sidelined him for the past two months. Another winger, Ernesto Gómez, was out since the beginning of the season due to a knee problem, but he played within the last three games and scored a goal plus providing an assist. In this way the only casualty for the match at the Riazor is left-back Víctor Marco, who is suspended after picking a fifth yellow card on the season.

There are high expectations in Lugo for the meeting; Deportivo sent 825 tickets for the game and were sold in a matter of minutes during Wednesday’s morning, there were protests from the fans and Deportivo decided to send 600 extra tickets to fulfill the demands. In the end around 2,000 fans of CD Lugo are expected on Sunday for the game.
