TACTICS: 4-1-4-1 OR 4-4-2?

14 Dec 2013
Fernando Vázquez didn’t give too many clues about the lineup that can be used ahead of the visit to SD Eibar. The 4-4-2 used in the last game at the Riazor worked perfectly, but now he might opt in a formation with only one attacker.

Contrary to what happened on previous weeks coach Fernando Vázquez didn’t test a fixed formation during the training sessions. He just tested several options switching the theoretical starters with the replacements –the players during the trainings are differentiated by a purple vest, which determines if it is a starter or not-

The 4-4-2 of the game against Alavés perfectly worked as it increased the offense depth and width of the team, but taking in mind that the next is an away match facing a more uncomfortable rival it might move the coach to return to the 4-1-4-1 or the variant of the 4-2-3-1.

In this sense the key is to know if the coach is going to rely again in the combination Luis Fernández-Borja Bastón or if instead one of them will be benched in order to play with an extra midfielder, probably Rudy. Until Friday the coach hadn’t decided anything regarding the issue, something he confessed before making the trip to the Basque country.

What seems clear is the defense, during Wednesday and Thursday the coach tested with Lux at the goal, Laureano Sanabria ‘Laure’ and Luisinho on the sides, while the central positions should be for Carlos Marchena and Kaká; the latter couple didn’t train on Thursday, but both were already available for Friday’s session held at the Riazor.

Álex Bergantiños and Juan Dominguez have a secure place in the lineup and their position depends on the chosen tactic by the coach. Juan Culio is also a fixed starter and the last performance of Juan Carlos Real, which included a goal, might be worthy to keep a spot at the team.

The first team traveled on Friday’s afternoon to the Basque country, for this reason the coach released the list of picked players since early in the day. The novelty is that Antonio Núñez is back after one month out due to an injury, while Uxio Marcos is replacing suspended Pablo Insua.

Players for the game Vs. Eibar:
Goalkeepers: German Lux & Fabricio
Defenders: Manuel Pablo, Laure, Seoane, Luisinho, Uxío, Kaká & Marchena
Midfielders: Álex Bergantiños, Juan Domínguez, Juan Carlos, Teles, Antonio Núñez & Culio
Attackers: Luis Fernández, Rudy & Borja Bastón
