THINKING OF CD NUMANCIA

19 Dec 2013
Fernando Vázquez recovers Insua, while Arizmendi hasn’t received yet the medical okay to play. Wilk and Lemos are the only confirmed casualties for Saturday. The rival arrives to the game without major injury concerns at the starting squad.

Deportivo prepare the last game in 2013 as CD Numancia visit the Riazor (Saturday, 18h00 CET). The big news is that centre-back Pablo Insua returns after serving a one-match suspension. The doubt will continue to be striker Javier Arizmendi, who hasn’t received yet the medical okay to play.

The Madrilenian trained apart on Tuesday, though one day later he completed the training session. Last week he was rested as coach Fernando Vázquez said that it was too soon to pick him for the match against SD Eibar. The doctors will study his evolution in the coming two days before allowing his return.

Meanwhile Carlos Marchena just completed part of Tuesday’s training due to a back injury, same problem to force him to stop for some days on past weeks. On Wednesday he completed the training session with the team and it’s expected that he could be a starter on Saturday.

Fabril’s playmaker Bicho remains doubtful as he’s dragging an ankle sprain, and for now the only confirmed casualties are centre midfielder Cezary Wilk and winger Álvaro Lemos. The duo is training apart and they should join the team early in 2014. Deportivo will train on Tuesday and Friday then there will be a Christmas break lasting until December 30.

On Wednesday there was a barbecue after the training session, once again the chef was goalkeeper German Lux. It’s part of the relaxation process that the coaching staff likes to promote among the player.

The barbecue after Wednesday’s training

CD Numancia arrive to the meeting refreshed after the 2-0 win against SD Ponferradina, result that put them at the promotion seats for the first time in a month. Coach Juan Antonio Anquela is open to present the same squad of the last game, including ex-Depor midfielder Antonio Tomás. However he has one confirmed casualty and three doubtful players.

Striker Pedro Martin, who is playing loaned from Atlético Madrid on this season, has been out within the last six weeks due to a stress fracture.  He already joined the training sessions, but won’t receive the medical okay until 2014.

Then there are three players in doubt due to injury concerns. Striker Javier Del Pino missed the previous three games due to an ankle sprain and already joined the group during the training sessions, but it isn’t clear if he will receive the medical okay before the trip to A Coruña.

Centre midfielder Marc Pedraza sustained a knock in the knee before the last game and he has been training apart since then. It’s the same case of keeper Raúl Fernández, who was a last-minute casualty in the game against SD Ponferradina after suffering a knock in the ribs during a training. He’s also training apart during this week.
