Despite the financial crisis hitting the club Lendoiro reversed the recent situation with the players ending their contracts, because only five men are ending their link with the club in June, though four of them are currently fixed starters.

In recent seasons at Deportivo La Coruña it was normal to reach the final days of a year with big part of the squad ending their contracts in the following six months. Just to remember that by the end of 2012 president Lendoiro had a tough situation with 19 of the 26 players ending their contract in June of 2013, the major part of them were loaned players.

But the current situation is very different; the administration process cancelled the large number of loan operations and reduced the number of players at the team (19) focusing everything in zero cost-transfers, surely those are short-term deals, but mainly two-year contracts.

In this way only five of the nineteen players at the first team are ending their deals in June or before. Goalkeeper German Lux signed a one-year renewal as he doesn’t like to sig bigger deals. Centre-back Carlos Marchena also signed a one-year extension during the summer, while Juan Culio was the only signing that landed with a contract for only one year.

The two special cases are winger Antonio Núñez and right-back Manuel Pablo. Núñez was signed when the market was already closed and with his deal lasting until December 31, though he should be signing an extension until June, while Manuel Pablo is the most veteran player at the squad and can stay as a club’s official according to the deal signed last year.

So, the 26% of the team is ending contract in June, which is a very low percentage compared to the 73% of the previous year.  Still, four of these five men are normal starters with Fernando Vázquez and their exit would be important, actually Culio has offers to leave during the winter window, something that Lendoiro will try to block.

According to Radio Cadena SER the big offer for Culio is coming from  United Arab Emirates Football League club Al Wasl FC. There are other two offers coming from Primera clubs (Getafe CF & RCD Espanyol). Meanwhile, Radio Cadena Cope informed that Al Wasl FC is offering €700,000 for Culio. The player wants to stay, but signing a three-year renewal.

About the rest of the team, twelve players are ending their contracts within 2015 & 2016. There are seven men ending their deals in June of 2015: centre-back Kaká, centre midfielders Cezary Wilk and Juan Dominguez, playmaker Juan Carlos Real, plus attackers Rudy, Javier Arizmendi and Borja Bastón.

The case of Bastón is special; he came loaned from Atlético Madrid in a complex deal that, according to Lendoiro, has many clauses including the transfers of some academy players that were never fulfilled, while at the beginning the Madrilenian club reported it as a one-year loan.

Then there are five players ending their contracts in 2016: goalkeeper Fabricio Agosto, right-backs Laureano Sanabria ‘Laure’ and Diego Seoane, left-back Luis Carlos Correia ‘Luisinho’ and centre midfielder Álex Bergantiños

Finally, the players with the longer contracts at the first team are centre-back Pablo Insua (2017) and striker Luis Fernández (2018).  It isn’t a coincidence that both are former Fabril’s players, because the club has been trying to protect the players coming out from the academy, as example midfielder Paulo Teles, who at the end of 2012 signed an extension lasting until 2019. The Portuguese currently belongs to Depor B though he has been on the bench for several games with the first squad.
