DEPORTIVO IN JANUARY

01 Jan 2014
Mixed situation for Deportivo in the first month of 2014; the first two games are meetings against rivals trying to survive in the league; the last two are direct confrontations against teams that are also searching the promotion.
2014 begins for Deportivo with the visit to Real Jaén; the Galicians already visited the Estadio De La Victoria on this season playing for Copa De Rey and were eliminated. The Andalusians had a poor start, but improved and left the drop zone in October; however they have lost three of the last five games in the competition and currently are only one point above the pit.

Then Deportivo have two straight games at the Riazor; the first one means the closure of the first round as Girona FC visit A Coruña. The Catalans had a positive start adding seven of the first nine points in dispute, but later fell down and are currently the most out-form team in the league with a mark of six straight games without wins, only getting two points within the period, reason why they are currently in relegation. For this reason Ricardo Rodríguez was fired and, just before the last matchday of 2013, Javi López was named as the new coach.

UD Las Palmas is the first rival in the second round; the Canarians are considered to be one of the best teams in the league, but their results have been unstable. Just to mention that in the penultimate matchday of 2013 they lost at home against the last place (Castilla) and seven days later they were defeating on the road the aspirant to be the first place (Recreativo). It’s going to be an emotional match as it will be the last game with Lendoiro as the president of the club and also because Valerón returns to the Riazor.
