The fourth winter signing of Deportivo was presented on Wednesday; it’s winger Ibrahim Sissoko, a right winger that can perform at both flanks. He will play loaned at Deportivo until the end of the season.

The signing of Ibrahim Sissoko turned to be complicated; since two weeks ago the club has been chasing the winger, firstly it was hard to contact VsL Wolfsburg and the negotiations were extended for two weeks as the player was loaned at AS Saint-Étienne, reason why the two presidents had by Depor in January, Lendoiro and Tino Fernández, were involved on this operation.

Later, on Tuesday, VsL Wolfsburg and Deportivo reached an agreement for the loan of the player until June [there’s no buyout option] but the operation was announced until Wednesday as the transfer wasn’t arriving, at some point it was even speculated that the deal could collapse. In the end the transfer arrived and the player, who had already made the medicals the day before, was presented in the afternoon.

There was even suspense during the presentation as the act was delayed in more than an hour as the club was pending to receive a last paper from VsL Wolfsburg. Finally president Tino Fernández and sporting director Ernesto Bello showed up to the trophy room to make the presentation.

Sissoko and Tino Fernández during the presentation

Tino Fernández explained the reasons why the signing lasted so much, “We were pending to solve some papers issues, because this is a triangular operation involving two other clubs and we, obviously, needed to be sure that everything was fine. I can only wish the best to the player. We hope he could add things for our success.”

Sissoko cannot speak Spanish and needed the help of a translator during the act; he expressed his happiness for landing at Depor, “This is something that was proposed to me and I’m glad to be in a club with the history represented by Deportivo, it’s a challenge to me.  This is only for six months, but if people are content with my performance, then I would be enchanted to stay for more time.”

About his position, the Ivorian winger explained that, “My preferred position is on the right side, but will play wherever the coach tells me. I can adapt to any position on the fined.” Finally, the African player remembered his relation with Toché, who was hi team mate at Panathinaikos FC, “My relation with Toché is great; he’s a good friend and hope to improve it now.”

Tino Fernández also told to reporters that Depor’s fans should expect for one more signing before the closure of the winter window, “I want to announce that we will possibly sign one more player. We will only have one more arrival at the first team. We were unable to increase the salary cap, so we are using the money generated by the exits of Culio and Kaká. We will sign one more player and it will be a centre-back. The presentation will take place on Friday.”

All the media in A Coruña suspect that the signing will be Albert Lopo, the ex-Depor defender that’s currently performing for Getafe CF. The media reported that he was offered to the club and that he’s about to rescind his contract with the Madrilenian club. It was even commented that the Catalan would sign a contract lasting until June.
