ONE MORE YEAR FOR MANUEL PABLO

20 Jun 2014
Manuel Pablo will enjoy one more year at Deportivo. The club and the side defender reached an agreement to see the Canarian staying ahead of the next Primera season. He’s the second player with more official games in the history of the club.

The club confirmed on Wednesday that Manuel Pablo will continue one more year at Deportivo’s first team. He still had a four-year contract with the club, but it was a special deal as he should have joined the club’s staff, however he requested to continue playing for one more year, something coach Fernando Vázquez and advisor Fernando Vidal discussed during this week. In the end both agreed. It’s the second move made by the club after the renewal of centre-back Lopo.

In this way the 38-year-old defender will live his 17th season at Deportivo. The Canarian player was only 22-years old when he joined Deportivo in the summer of 1998. He was signed together with Argentinean striker ‘Turu’ Flores but more or less was considered a ‘bonus’ in this package deal.

25 years later he remains at Deportivo as the team’s captain and after living of everything, from the glorious era of the liga title, the Centenariazo and the Champions League appearances to the two relegations plus the two promotions back to Primera División.

Manuel Pablo has made 470 appearances in official games playing for Deportivo; it’s the second highest mark in the history of the club only behind Fran (699). He surpassed Mauro Silva (459) during this season and previously did with Donato (393) & Sergio (383)
