Depor’s first team returned to the training pitch ahead of the season 2014/15. It was also the first session for new coach Víctor Fernández, plus new arrivals Canella and Isaac Cuenca. Rudy was also a novelty.

First day of training for Deportivo ahead of the season 2013/14. The day began with the 19 players at the first team attending to Abegondo in order to undergo the first medical tests of the season. New coach Víctor Fernández addressed his men for the first time and later had a meeting with sporting directors Ernesto Bello and Richard Barral.

The first training took place in the afternoon.  In this opportunity the group was composed by 20 men, because Fabril’s goalie David Gómez was picked by Fernández.  New signings Roberto Canella and Isaac Cuenca trained for the first time with Depor. Winger Rudy was also back after his loan spell in Portugal.

Winger Lucas Pérez didn’t took part of the session as his transfer remains stopped due to a conflict between PAOK FC and his former club FK Karpaty Lviv. It’s expected the operation can be completed in the coming hours.

The first team during the training
The only player sidelined was Cezary Wilk, the Polish midfielder ended last season with a calf injury and trained apart during the session. It isn’t that he isn’t recovered, but that the doctors don’t want to take risks. It’s expected that he will join the group on next week.

It was a long session that lasted 90 minutes and that mixed physical work with tactical training moving the ball over the grass. Coach Víctor Fernandez was joined by Roberto Cabellud, who should be the physical trainer. Manu Sotelo, who last season was the keeper’s trainer and who was expected to be the second coach ahead of the new campaign, was also present. Fernández hasn’t decided yet if he will keep Sotelo or if instead he will request for someone from the outside.

On Tuesday there will be two training sessions (10h00 & 18h00 CET). The physical charge should be high on this first week, the team will continue to work at Abegondo until Friday, then it will make the trip to Colombia in order to take part of the LFP World Challenge.
