INJURY PROBLEMS AT DEPOR

24 Jul 2014
The pre-season has started in the worst possible way for Deportivo, with two of the four signings having physical problems and with two players injured during the South American trip. Up to five men are currently dealing with injuries.

After only one and a half weeks in the pre-season and with only one friendly game disputed, Depor are already carrying with five injury cases. It’s something to be worried as it affects the preparation of a team under construction, though it’s also true that these cases aren’t serious and that the affected players should be fit to play soon.

Cezary Wilk is the first name on the list. He was dragging a calf injury from last season and has been working apart since the first day of the current pre-season. It’s expected he could join the trainings with the group as soon as the team returns from Colombia.

Then the case with Lucas Pérez, who was unlucky enough to suffer an injury in his first day with the team. The third signing for the season sustained an ankle sprain and was left out of the squad traveling to South America. At the beginning it was commented that the winger was going to be off for two weeks, but it’s possible that he could be already back on next week after the player expressed that he was feeling better.

The South American tour has also caused problems. Three of the five injury cases occurred in Colombia, first with Isaac Cuenca, who picked a muscle problem during a training session. Taking in mind his past problems with the knee, the club didn’t want to assume risks and the players was sent back to A Coruña. And the scans confirmed that the winger suffered a grade one muscle injury on the quadriceps muscle of his left leg. It means he will be sidelined for one or two weeks.

Javier Arizmendi was the fourth case in this pre-season. On Tuesday he was ruled out of the game against Independiente de Santa Fé with a muscle problem. It isn’t clear if he will be available for the game against Deportivo Cali. The Madrilenian attacker already faced these kinds of injuries during last season.

And the last case was German Lux, the keeper had to be replaced early in the game with Santa Fé due to a thigh problem. The Argentine will return to A Coruña on Thursday in order to undergo new scans and determine if the problem is serious or not.
