Another surprising move by RC Deportivo La Coruña as the club confirmed on Sunday the arrival of Argentine playmaker Luis Fariña. He arrives loaned from SL Benfica ahead of the season 2014/15.

Luis Fariña is a 23-year-old Argentine playmaker without any experience in Europe. He came out from the academy of Racing Club; in 2013 he was signed by SL Benfica with the Portuguese outfit paying $4.6 million (€3.43 million).

The playmaker didn’t play any game with the Portuguese outfit, instead he was sent loaned to Emirati football club Baniyas SC, team where he scored six goals in 23 official presentations. Fariña is a skilful playmaker used to make long runs on the field, the kind of midfielder referred as “box-to-box” player, a concept that Víctor Fernández likes a lot.

In Argentina, Fariña also performed as a centre midfielder, though he always said that his preferred position is the playmaker’s role.  He came out from the academy of Racing Club and was partner of Bruno Zuculini, who is also pretended by Depor.

Deportivo officially announced the operation on Sunday; it’s a loan deal lasting for one season. The club didn’t inform if there’s a buyout option included in the operation. The Argentine player will undergo the medicals on Monday and should be training with the team on Tuesday.

Fariña is the sixth signing ahead of the Primera season 2014/15. Previously the Blanquiazul outfit closed the incorporations of left-back defender Roberto Canella, wingers Isaac Cuenca, Lucas Pérez and Diogo Salomão plus centre midfielder José Rodríguez.
