16 Aug 2014
Haris Medunjanin addressed the media after Friday’s first training; he explained the reasons why he decided to join Deportivo and also said that his new role on the pitch is to perform as a centre midfielder.

First day of trainings for Haris Medunjanin; after the first session he talked to reporters at the press room and he was explaining why he decided to sign for Depor, “When a chance to play in Spain comes out then you have to seize the opportunity. I like this football and the coach likes to play having the ball. That’s the reason why I’m coming here.”

“I knew Fabricio as we played together in Valladolid. He’s a good friend and a good goalkeeper. I also know other player from the TV. I also talked to another Bosnian player in Belgium and he said great things of this coach. It helped me to decide in order to come here.” He added.

Then he explained the position in which he likes to play, "I have changed a lot. Now I play in a more defensive role and have much more experience. During my first stage on here [at Real Valladolid] I was too young and was coming from AZ Alkmaar, it was difficult to adapt to Spain. “

“But I have played a lot in Spain and have experience in the league. I believe I can do a nice job now. Before I played a lot as a playmaker, but now I play as a centre midfielder. I like it more as I have the chance to have the ball. It’s my best position and it’s the place where I can help the team.” He added.

The Bosnian international also explained that he has been training, but at the same time that he’s lacking match fitness, “We started to train on July 21 in Turkey and my last training was on Monday, so I spent four days without training and now I must start again. I believe that I will be fine after four or five training sessions. Everything is fine. The coach talked to me before the training and he told me that I need to be relaxed and train at the top. That’s why I need to do.”

“You want to spend more time in a league like this one. You want to give everything and I believe the first year is always difficult, but I have much more experience. I don’t know if I will play for the first game as only ten days are remaining, but I will train a lot in order to do it later.” He added.

Haris was also talking if his references of Deportivo, “It’s a club with a great history. Four years ago they were at Primera, then they went down, went up again and the cycle was repeated. I can help this team to stay at Primera. We must be together and play as a team. I come here… I don’t know yet if I will play, but I need to do it fine when I could have the chance to play. I need to train at the top and if I do the right things then I can be a starter.”

Finally, Medunjanin said that he was happy with his participation in the World Cup, though his team didn’t pass the group stage, “It was a good experience. All the players want to perform in a World Cup. It’ a dream for all the players and it’s really good for a little country like Bosnia and Herzegovina. It was a good experience for us.”
