It seems like a curse, but 9 of the last 10 top-scorers at the first team have left the club after ending the season at the top of the scoring charts. The last one is Borja Bastón, who has rescinded his link with Deportivo.

The club confirmed on Wednesday that Borja Bastón has rescinded his link with Deportivo. The striker arrived on last season in a complex deal of which the full details were never revealed by the past board of administrators. Basically it was a loan deal lasting two seasons. Since the Madrilenian player wasn’t part of the plans of coach Víctor Fernández it was decided that he should leave.

Víctor talked to the players since a couple of weeks ago, but the operation was delayed as Deportivo were trying first to find the so-wished striker that will join Toché in the rotation. Bastón is now heading to Real Zaragoza loaned for one year after the Aragonians reached an agreement with Atlético Madrid.

At the start of last season there were many doubts in the attacking line after the failed attempt to sign Geijo, especially since the first choices where young players like Luis and Borja. The true is that this 21-year-old attacked impressed during his first appearances, netting a brace in his debut against CE Sabadell CF (0-3, matchday 03) and later again against Hércules CF (0-2, matchday 07).

However, later the Madrilenian lost the pace and passed to be an unnoticed player, to the point that he lost the starting spot with the arrival of the winter reinforcements, though ended the season as the Pichichi netting ten goals. Not a favorite of the fans, but scored important goals in the final stretch of the season, including a late equalizer visiting Deportivo Alavés (1-1, matchday 38).

His exit seem to be a part of a curious curse at Deportivo, because nine of the last ten top-scorers at the first team left the club exactly after ending as the Pichichi of the squad: Luque (2004-05, 11 goals) Tristán (2005-06, 11 goals) Arizmendi (2006-07, 5 goals), Xisco (2007-2008, 9 goals), Lafita (2008-09, 8 goals), Adrián López (2010-1, 9 goals), Lassad (2011-2012, 14 goals), Riki (2012-2013, 13 goals), Borja Bastón (2013-14, 10 goals).
