Huge problem for Víctor Fernández as Insua will be unavailable for Sunday’s game. Manuel Pablo is back in the trainings. Paco Jémez is boosted at Rayo Vallecano with the debut of Baptistão.

Coach Víctor Fernández is having a big problem at the centre of the defense as Pablo Insua was diagnosed with a syndesmotic sprain on his right ankle. The doctors haven’t ruled him out of Sunday’s meeting against Rayo Vallecano (Riazor, 21h00 CET), but the true is that he will hardly be ready for the match.

A syndesmotic sprain -aka high ankle sprain- is a sprain of the syndesmotic ligaments -connecting the tibia and fibula- on the ankle and occurs when the lower leg and foot externally rotates (twists out). Normally it takes one or two weeks to heal and in some cases it can lasts seven weeks, so the defender won’t be available for the weekend.  Still, the defender will make a late test on Saturday.

It’s a critical casualty for the Aragonian coach, because currently he only has two centre-backs available at the first team. It would force him to improvise with Álex Bergantiños or Manuel Pablo on that position or to rely in Iago López from Deportivo B.

Meanwhile, captain Manuel Pablo is back after completing all the training sessions on this week. The veteran right-back has been out the past two weeks with a thigh problem and received the medical okay to play on Thursday. It means that, apart from the case of Insua, the only two players that remain out for injury reasons are wingers Diogo Salomão (knee) and Lucas Pérez (quadriceps).

Striker Borja Bastón didn’t train on the week and rescinded his link with the club on Wednesday, the other two players ruled out by Victor for the season are playmaker Juan Carlos and right-back Diego Seoane. Both men remain training with the first team until finding a club for the new campaign.

For the second straight week, Víctor Fernández is preparing a league match having Fabril’s players at the squad. On this week the novelty is Rafael Veloso, the Portuguese keeper was signed on this week and is training with the first team since Tuesday. Keeper David Gómez, centre-back Iago López and attacker Marcos Remeseiro are the other two B players that have worked with the senior team.

At Rayo Vallecano, coach Paco Jémez is boosted as he will be able to count with striker Léo Baptistão, the Brazilian player was off the opening matchday as Atlético Madrid is his parent club. He’s returning to Rayo after scoring 7 goals in 18 matches during the season 2012/13.

Meanwhile, midfielder Alhassane Bangoura ‘Lass’ is at the door out; he was a fixed starter for Jémez on last season and wasn’t picked for the game against Atlético. It is commented that Newcastle United, ACF Fiorentina, Málaga CF & Levante UD are pushing to sign the Guinean footballer. It isn’t expected that he would be picked for the clash at the Riazor if he doesn’t leave before Sunday.

Left winger Álex Moreno skipped the first game of the season due to illness, but it’s expected that he could be available for the weekend, so the only player that will miss the meeting against the Galicians due to injury reasons is centre-back Antonio Amaya (Achilles).
