TACTICS: 4-2-3-1 OR 4-3-3?

30 Aug 2014
Víctor Fernández has two options ahead of the home game against Rayo Vallecano. Pablo Insua remains doubtful and Deportivo’s coach will decide if he will be picked for the game until Saturday.

Contrary to what happened last week, coach Víctor Fernández hasn’t revealed any clue of the lineup that will be used for Sunday’s game against Rayo Vallecano. During the training sessions he only tested formations composed by nine men, so it isn’t clear the draw that will be used.

On last week, during the training sessions, he tested a 4-3-3 figure with Haris Medunjanin performing at midfield, but during the last training he tested a 4-2-3-1 draw with Luis Fariña as the playmaker, the latter was the draw used during the match against Granada CF.

So, Víctor Fernández has both options available. One is a 4-3-3 figure with Fariña on the right wing and with Bosnian Haris Medunjanin joining Juan Dominguez and José Rodriguez at midfield. The other is the 4-2-3-1 saw in the opening matchday, though the coach admitted during his press conference that it’s probable to witness changes.

There are other two questions regarding specific names. Iván Cavaleiro was a starter and scored against Granada CF, but Víctor could be tempted to perform with Isaac Cuenca on the right wing, though both men could start on the bench if Víctor decides to open a spot for Medunjanin and the 4-3-3.

The other question is the fitness of Pablo Insua, the centre-back hasn’t trained within the last three days due to an ankle sprain and should be a casualty for Sunday, but Víctor said on Friday that he hopes the player can be picked for the game.

Insua will be tested during the last training before the game (Saturday) and then it will be decided if he’s picked or not. If he stays off, then the favorite to play at the centre of the defense is Álex Bergantiños, who was tested alongside Lopo during the training sessions.
