The pause in la liga is helping Víctor Fernández in three things: to recover a couple of injured players, to see his men improving their physical condition and to have an additional week to integrate the new signings.

The international break could turn to be a real benefit to Deportivo. The team remains under construction and an additional week of trainings is gold for coach Víctor Fernández, first to all to recover a couple of injured players: centre-back Pablo Insua and winger Lucas Pérez.

Insua is dragging an ankle injury and has been rested all week long, he was picked by the U-21 squad of Spain, but was released after the club sent the medical report. The doctors expect that he will join the trainings on next week.

In the case of Lucas, the winger is already recovered from his quadriceps injury; he joined the trainings on this week and even played in the friendly game against Laracha CF. The other two players that are currently dragging physical problems are winger Diogo Salomão (knee) and playmaker Juan Carlos (ankle sprain), the latter sustained the injury during the warming up of this week’s friendly game and will be assessed in next week.

Another positive thing from the international break is that Fernández had six more sessions to accelerate the adaptation of the twelve signings made during the summer, especially the last four, who were hired on deadline day and that started to work on this week.

Striker Hélder Postiga and fullback Juanfran Moreno joined the trainings on Tuesday, centre-back Sidnei Rechel did it on Thursday and the last player that joined the group was French Modibo Diakité, who is working with the team since Friday.

A third benefit from the international break is that the team has been able to improve t’s physical condition, something that was evident in the first two matchdays. The coach also used the trainings to prepare the tactics for the upcoming games, that’s why the team faced the friendly against Laracha CF and even had a session behind closed doors at the Riazor (Saturday).

And there was also room for the Fabril’s players; the three field players that are now used to train with the first team were working with the squad: centre-back Iago López, winger Miguel Cardoso and attacker Marcos Remeseiro. And on this week they were joined by keeper Rafael Veloso and centre midfielder Samuel Piette, both are new signings made by Deportivo B.

Víctor Fernández even rewarded two players from the academy with one training session with the team. They are playmaker Aarón Sánchez and centre midfielder Iago Gandoy.  Both lads play with Juvenil B and were invited for Saturday’s training at the Riazor.

Meanwhile, Bosnian Haris Medunjanin and Portuguese Iván Cavaleiro have been off as they are in international action. Cavaleiro should return on Monday, but Medunjanin will return until Wednesday as his country plays a Euro qualifier one day before.

Next week will be a little unusual, because the team plays until next Monday, so it’s going to be a long week for the players; actually the club has organized a new friendly for Thursday, which is a visit to Tercera club Arosa SC (20h30 CET).
