THINKING OF UD ALMERIA

26 Sep 2014
More injury cases at Deportivo, Juan Dominguez will miss the next two games and Fariña is doubtful. Insua and Salomão are progressing, but probably will miss the upcoming clash with UD Almeria.

After losing the last two matches in liga, Deportivo are now preparing the upcoming match against UD Almeria (Sunday, Riazor, 17h00 CET).  The team returned to train on Thursday and will complete three training sessions before the game. Unluckily for coach Víctor Fernández he has been also losing resources. On Monday’s session, one day before the derby, Juan Dominguez sustained an injury when he was attempting a shot on target.

The scans confirmed a grade 2 hamstring strain on his right thigh; normally these injuries need between three and four weeks to heal. It means the centre midfielder will at least miss the game against UD Almeria and also the visit to Sevilla CF. He could be back after the next international break.

Meanwhile, playmaker Luis Fariña, who was doubtful on last week, didn’t train on Thursday. The doctors detected a meniscopathy on his right knee. Meniscopathy indicates an abnormality of the meniscus which consists of ligaments that reduce friction during bodily joint movements. The player is under treatment and is doubtful for Sunday. The injury of the Argentine man might need surgery, but the player will try to follow a conservative treatment and delay the operation until the end of the season.

Then, the cases with centre-back Pablo Insua, plus wingers Lucas Pérez and Diogo Salomão. Insua is already recovered from his ankle injury, but the doctors want to be cautious. He could join the trainings today, though surely won’t be available for Sunday’s meeting.

Salomão, as Víctor Fernández announced on Monday, is progressing and on Thursday completed part of the session with the group. For now he’s making some exercises with his team mates, but will avoid the physical contact. He will continue increasing the routine and could return to play in November.

In the case of Lucas Pérez, the doctors are cautious with his quadriceps injury and will keep the player sidelined for one additional week, so he’s also missing the game with UD Almeria and the visit to Sevilla CF. Finally, Roberto Canella was doubtful on last week due to a toe injury, but the Asturian left-back already surpassed the problem, though he wasn’t a starter in in the last two games.

If Fariña ends missing Sunday’s match, then the coach will only have 20 players available for the meeting at the Riazor. On Thursday, four players from Depor B trained with the first team: wingers Cañi and Miguel Cardoso, centre-back Iago López and attacker Marcos Remeseiro. The novelty on this week was to see Juvenil B goalkeeper Ramon Rodríguez trained with the team during Sunday’s session.

UD Almeria is arriving to the meeting after losing on Wednesday against Atlético Madrid (0-1), but the previous victory visiting Real Sociedad (1-2) meant fresh air to coach Francisco Rodríguez, who is facing the season with a relative short squad: 20 players plus two of three lads from the B squad. In this sense the key to clinch the permanence is to have a healthy squad minimizing the casualties due to injuries.

And for the meeting at the Riazor the situation is calm as the only player out is centre midfielder Miguel Ángel García ‘Corona’ (hamstring strain).  Centre-back/full-back Sebastián Dubarbier is returning after been sent off against Real Sociedad. Centre midfielder Thomas Teye is also returning after skipping the meeting with Atlético Madrid as the latter is his parent club.
