TACTICS: ALTERNATIVES FOR SUNDAY

27 Sep 2014
Víctor Fernández is pending on the fitness of Fariña in order to determine the lineup for the game. Cavaleiro is doubtful, but the coach is expecting to have him available. He could return to the 4-3-3.

After two straight defeats Deportivo return to the Riazor searching for their first home victory, coach Víctor Fernández is expecting for a defensive Almeria and prepares his team to have the ball possession for the first time on the season.

However, there are key players at midfield that are out or doubtful. Centre midfielder Juan Dominguez is out with a hamstring strain and playmaker Luis Fariña is doubtful with a knee problem. On Friday the coach addressed the media and said that he’s convinced that the Argentinean man will be available.

It’s a sensitive problem, because the coach considers that Fariña and Lucas Pérez are the only natural playmakers in the team and to have both of them out would mean an important setback. Winger Iván Cavaleiro didn’t train on Friday due to a thigh problem, but it was a precatory measure and the player should be available for the meeting against the Andalusians.

Another doubt is the situation with centre-back Pablo Insua, the Galician player is training with the team since Thursday, but hasn’t received the medical okay to play. On Friday, Víctor told to reporters that he hasn’t decided yet if the player will be picked for the game.

It seems that Sidnei Rechel and Albert Lopo will continue to be the centre-backs, this after the coach had a long conversation with both men during Thursday’s training. He also had a long conversation on the training pitch with Álex Bergantiños, who’s set to start at midfield.

The presence or not of Fariña could have an impact in the draw to be used on Sunday. If the Argentine is ready to play, then the coach could keep the 4-2-3-1 figure with him performing as the playmaker. If not the draw could be a 4-3-3 with Medunjanin, Álex Bergantiños and José Rodríguez playing at the same time.

There are also doubts if Juanfran Moreno and Isaac Cuenca could continue performing on the wings, but what seems sure is that Hélder Postiga and German Lux will continue to be starters, at least it’s the impression left by the coach according to what he said on his press conference.
