THE LONG BATTLE OF LUCAS PÉREZ

05 Nov 2014
Winger/playmaker Lucas Pérez is the player that has suffered more injury cases on this season. Up to four different injuries forced him to miss 8 of the 10 matches played so far. The Galician man feel weird for been facing this situation.

Few players in the recent past had provoked the expectation brought by Lucas Pérez. The winger/playmaker is considered as an important signing and the fans like him, firstly for what he can offer on the pitch and latter for his passion for Deportivo, something that’s strange to notice in a new signing.

The problem is that the fans and the coach had barely enjoyed with the player on the pitch as the injuries prevented to see him participating in the pre-season and later in eight of the ten league matchdays played so far.

And it’s that Lucas had suffered four different problems on this campaign. First to all an ankle sprain suffered the first day he trained with the team (July), for this reason he missed the Colombian tour during the pre-season. Then, during the pre-season stage, he only played 29 minutes in a friendly match as two quadriceps injuries affected him.

The last one was a grade one muscle injury on the quadriceps muscle of his left leg, problem that not only sidelined him for the last stretch on the pre-season, but also for the first seven meetings in la liga. He finally had the chance to debut on matchday 08 as Depor were hosting Valencia CF, match in which he even scored a goal.

It seemed the nightmare was over, but the ghosts returned a fortnight ago as the Galician player only lasted eighteen minutes on the pitch during the game visiting RCD Espanyol, this after collecting a knee knock. The scans only confirmed a concussion, a minor problem, but it was strong enough to keep him at bay for the home clash with Getafe CF and now for the visit to Córdoba CF.

So, four injuries in only four months, and the weird thing is that in three different parts of the body. Lucas himself is the first one surprised with this strange situation, ”For me it was strange to suffer these two setbacks, because since landing at the first team of Rayo Vallecano I never lived this. Now I am at Deportivo, the team where I always wanted to be.” He said before suffering the latest injury.
