TACTICS: THE RETURN OF THE 4-4-2

06 Nov 2014
Víctor Fernández is preparing changes in the lineup for the visit to Córdoba CF. The formula could be a 4-4-2 with four full-backs performing at the same time. Postiga and Cavaleiro could be the starters in attack.

Several novelties ahead of the visit to Córdoba CF. First to all there are four players out due to injury reasons: centre-back Pablo Insua (muscle), playmaker Luis Fariña (stress fracture), striker Toché (Soleus) and winger Lucas Pérez (knee knock). The first two were starters in the past game against Getafe CF.

Later, the coach is preparing changes at the lineup due to tactical reasons. During the week he tested the 4-3-3 and the 4-2-3-1, but the more used scheme was the 4-4-2- He tested this figure on Tuesday and Wednesday and seems like the most probable draw for the upcoming game at the Arcángel stadium.

The characteristic of the draw is the presence of four full-backs. Laure returns and performs at the right side of the defense, Canella is at the left. Then, Juanfran and Luisinho are moved up to cover the wings. Both players were the full-backs during the past game at the Riazor.

The defensive line is also presenting novelties, Laure is ready to return and perform at the right side of the defense, while Canella would be playing at the left. The casualty of Insua is pulling Lopo back into the centre of the defense joining Sidnei. Fabricio complements the defense performing at the goal.

Wilk and Medunjanin stay playing at midfield. In attack, Cavaleiro and Postiga are ready to start. During the press conference the coach confessed that he isn’t sure if Postiga is ready to perform for the full 90 minutes, reason why he decided to pick nineteen players.

And with Toché out injured the coach decided to pick Dani Iglesias. The 19-year-old striker is the first Fabril’s player picked for a league game since matchday 02 (Remeseiro & Iago Iglesias were part of the team for the first two matchdays). The roster for the game was released on Wednesday as the team is traveling early in Thursday morning to Andalusia.

Winger Diogo Salomão received the medical okay to play on Wednesday, but wasn’t included in the list. Víctor Fernández told to reporters that he could last one month to be included in the roster as he needs match fitness.

The roster for the game Vs. Córdoba CF:
Goalkeepers:  Lux & Fabricio
Defenders: Laure, Manuel Pablo, Lopo, Sidnei, Diakité, Juanfran, Canella & Luisinho
Midfielders: Álex Bergantiños, Juan Dominguez, José Rodríguez, Medunjanin, Wilk & Cuenca
