Problems for Víctor Fernández as he only had eighteen players available training at Abegondo. There are five injured players and only one of them is close to return. The biggest problems are located in attack.

The breaks in liga are always helpful to recharge the batteries, but lately at Deportivo the pauses aren’t helping for the preparations of the games, this for the casualties hitting the squad. Therefore coach Víctor Fernández has spent the week without preparing the lineup for the next game against Real Sociedad, instead he has tried to improve the physical preparation of the team plus fixing some details, like shooting on target and the set-pieces.

Depor completed five sessions during the week. On Monday the Aragonian coach only had fifteen field players available (Cavaleiro asked for permission to travel to Portugal). So, he picked Fabril’s striker Francis Massampu, in the next three training sessions scheduled for the week there were only eighteen players available (sixteen field players plus two goalkeepers).

The worst day was Friday as there were only fifteen players during the training session. Centre-back Modibo Diakité asked for permission to skip the session, Cavaleiro was working in the gym as a precatory measure and German Lux was having flu-like symptoms.

For Thursday’s session the coach prepared a training match and, since there were no enough player for it, he picked seven lads from Fabril: goalkeeper David Gómez, centre-back Róber Suárez, playmaker Marcos Remeseiro, wingers Miguel Cardoso and Cañi, plus strikers Dani Iglesias and Massampu.

Seven players have been out of the training pitch on this week. Two of them are on international tasks and will return on next week. Striker Hélder Postiga is concentrated with Portugal and returns until Wednesday as he’s playing a friendly game against Argentina on Tuesday, though he’s ineligible for the next match after been sent off against Córdoba CF (there’s a pending case in the appealing committee that will hardly succeed).

The other player on international duties is centre midfielder Haris Medunjanin, he should return on Monday as Bosnia & Herzegovina are only playing one game during the break (Sunday visiting Israel for the qualifying round of the Euro 2016)

Other five players are out injured: centre-back Pablo Insua (knock), left-back Roberto Canella (Soleus), winger Lucas Pérez (knee), playmaker Luis Fariña (stress fracture) and striker Toché (Soleus). On Friday, goalkeeper German Lux skipped the session having flu-like symptoms.

Of this list the only men that should be available for next week are Insua and Lux. The other four players have a small chance to be available for the visit to Atlético Madrid, though the normal thing is that they will be ready until December. In the case of Lucas he’s in Madrid consulting an external expert regarding his knee injury. The winger was jogging on Friday and didn’t feel any pain.

The casualties are hitting the attacking line of Víctor Fernández, to the point that he only has one attacker (Cavaleiro) and two wingers (Cuenca & Juanfran) available, so it’s possible that the gaps will be filled with some Fabril’s players during next week. Winger Salomão is training without problems and the coach might be tempted to pick him for the next match.
