After a promising start in offense, Deportivo are now dragging a mark of 371 minutes without scoring goals. It’s the worst streak at the club since 2010. The problem seems to be a lack of aim, though the team has poor offensive stats.

It shouldn’t be a surprise to see Deportivo having problems to score goals. After all the Galicians have only completed 113 shots in 14 liga matchdays, which is the worst mark among the twenty Primera outfits. Of this number only 43 were shots on target (38% of the total).

Víctor Fernández was promising attractive football when he landed in A Coruña, but his team has only won the ball possession in four opportunities after 14 matchdays, curiously it wasn’t able to win those meetings (0-1 Vs. UD Almeria, 1-2 Vs. Getafe CF, 0-0 Vs. Real Sociedad and 0-1 Vs. Malaga CF).

Therefore the lack of goals isn’t strange. What happens is that Depor had a better conversion ratio in the first part of the games played so far. Within the first seven games Los Blanquiazules scored eight goals after competing 21 shots on target, it means a decent conversion ratio of 38%. But the team only scored four goals in the last seven matches despite completing one more shot on target compared to the first stage, so the conversion ratio was reduced to only 18%.

It clearly demonstrates that the current problem is a lack of aim. Within the last four games Deportivo completed twelve shots on target, however the team missed to score a goal. The last goal in liga for Depor came in the home meeting against Getafe CF (October 31), since then the team has spent 371 minutes scoreless, a negative mark that included four straight games without goals: 0-0 at Córdoba CF, 0-0 Vs. Real Sociedad, 0-2 at Atlético Madrid and 0-1 Vs. Málaga CF.

This is the worst streak at the club since 2010. At the time the team coached by Miguel Ángel Lotina spent 463 minutes without scoring, it happened between matchdays 31 & 36, which included four straight games without goals: 0-3 at FC Barcelona, 0-0 Vs. UD Almeria, 0-1 at Valencia CF and 0-1 Vs. Real Zaragoza.
