VERDU HOPES TO FIND A PLACE IN THE STARTING ELEVEN

07 Oct 2006
Joan Verd?? debuted in the past week in Primera. He played a couple of minutes against Real Sociedad and now he is pointing to bigger challenges: to be a starter in the squad. The Catalan playmaker also analysed the differences between Deportivo and Barcelona B.

People have been asking for Verd?? and why he isn't entering into Caparr??s' plans; comments that satisfies the Catalan player, as he said in Abegondo's press room: "I am really proud and these things motivate me to fight and search for a place in the starting eleven."  Caparr??s tried to explain this case some days ago. Depor's coach said that the Catalan "still has to find the difference between Segunda B and Primera." A reason that's accepted by Verd??: "If the coach says that, it must be true."

Verd?? debuted in Primera last weekend, playing a couple of minutes in the victory against Real Sociedad, now the Catalan playmaker appoints to higher challenges: "I already debuted in Riazor, it was a dream come true, I played my first game in Primera. This is the most difficult step that I have made, and now the objective is to accumulate more minutes and finally, I want to be a starter in the squad."

The Catalan explained the differences that he sees between Deportivo and Barcelona B: "I am coming from a team that plays an offensive game, we rarely saw the hole squad defending. Here, things are slightly different, the wingers are more closed. Maybe it's the mentality, but I don't think that these differences are huge."

Verd?? also said that he prefers to perform as a playmaker, a position that belongs to Valer??n. But Verd?? isn't too worried about competing with the Canarian for a place in the starting lineup: "I feel really comfortable playing in that position, it's true that Valer??n is the owner of that function, but that doesn't mean that I won't play, we are compatible and we can play at the same time." Finally, Verd?? is really happy to see Barrag??n debuting with Spain's U-21 squad: "We are happy for him, everybody will love to be in his situation."
