The first signing of the winter window is already available for Víctor Fernández. Riera completed the medicals on Monday and immediately joining the training session. He will play loaned until the end of the season.

Oriol Riera has joined Deportivo in a loan deal lasting until June coming from Wigan Athletic. There are rumors the deal includes a buyout option, but the club hasn’t informed about it. The player completed the medicals and joined the trainings on Monday. The striker will be presented on Wednesday after the training session.

The Catalan striker is covering the spot of centre-back Diakité, who ended his contract with the club on December 31. Coach Víctor Fernández was looking for an attacker in order to increase the options in attack. He’s available for the next game against Levante UD.

The striker arrived on Sunday’s night to A Coruña

Early in the morning the striker underwent the medicals. Before, he talked to journalists. He explained why he decided to sign for Depor, “It was a process of fifteen days that were really intense, I was able to choose. In my career I always chose the places where I believe it is convenient to play for the style of the city, the club and the way to do things. I believe this is the right place to continue growing and improving, just like each year. People said great things of this club and here I am.”

Riera said that he’s ready to play on Friday facing UD Levante, “I have been training each day. Besides, the players that don’t take part in the league do it in midweek with the reserves, this in order to not lose the form. I’m prepared to face any challenge.”

Later he explained why he failed to succeed in England, “It was a very radical change in culture, the customs. I haven’t been lucky enough to have a chance to prove myself and with the change of the coach everything changed a bit. I thank Wigan for giving me the power to allow my exit, in this way I’m here today."

For the Catalan striker this is a new opportunity to achieve a permanence after what happened with CA Osasuna, “Last year I wasn’t able to achieve it. I hope that this year will be different. As bigger the challenge as better.”
