Striker Oriol Riera was presented on Wednesday. He said to be aware of the responsibility for been wearing the shirt number 21 and also explained why he decided to sign for Deportivo.

The first winter signing of Deportivo, Oriol Riera, was presented on Wednesday after the training session. President Tino Fernández and advisor Fernando Vidal where the officials present at the moment of welcoming the player.

Oriol arrives loaned from Wigan Athletic in a loan deal lasting until June. There’s no buyout option over the striker, though the president said that he’s open to negotiate at the end of the season. The president also confirmed that the club is paying a fee for the loan and also the wages for these six months. The amount of the fee wasn’t revealed.

Wigan also confirmed the information and coach Malky Mackay explained the reason why he’s leaving,  “The reality is that we need to trim the squad and this loan will allow Oriol the opportunity to play more regularly, which is what he needs to do. We wish him success back in Spain and will reassess his situation in the summer.”

Depor’s president welcomed the player during the presentation, “He’s a striker arriving to Deportivo from Wigan and until the end of the season. We wish him a successful stage at Depor. We wish him good luck and we know that he’s a hard worker. In the beginning he will be here until June.” He said.

Then the player addressed the media. He said to be ready to play, “These last two days were good. I’m lacking pace, yes, but don’t need too much time to adapt, because I know the league and the club. I come prepared for the challenge, to compete and enjoy Primera.”

Later Oriol was asked if he’s aware of the meaning for been wearing the shirt number 21 and he responded that, “I know the meaning for been wearing the number 21. It’s a big responsibility and will do it with faith and desire. I’m sure everything will be fine.”

Later the Catalan striker explained why he decided to sign for Depor instead of Levante UD, “In several times I moved by feelings. I always did it in my career. I believe this is a humble team and a place where I can enjoy. Hopefully everything will be fine. I thanks Lucas [Levante’s coach] for the interest during the winter window, but I believe this is the right choice. I want to continue growing as a player.”

Finally, Oriol isn’t sure if he will be in the game against Levante. “I don’t know if I will play or if I will be in the roster. It depends on the coach. I already talked to him. It’s going to be hard. Levante are a difficult team. We are expecting for a tough meeting and it’s going to be complicated. We must prevail at both areas.”
