The new signing of Deportivo, Hélder Costa, was presented on Wednesday at Abegondo. He will be inscribed as a B team member, but will only play with the first team of Depor. He’s already training with Víctor Fernández’s team.

Hélder Costa was presented on Wednesday after completing his first training with the first team. The Portuguese winger/playmaker is joining Deportivo in a loan deal negotiated with SL Benfica lasting until June. There’s no buyout option over the player.

He will wear the number 32, which means that he’s inscribed as a B team member, something that’s possible as he’s a U-23 player. However the club won’t allow his participation with Fabril. Sporting advisor Fernando Vidal presented him. President Tino Fernández wasn’t in the presentation, because one of his relatives died on Tuesday’s night and he wasn’t available.

Vidal welcomed the player and explained his status: “He’s 21 and is coming from the academy of Benfica. He’s one of the promises of Portuguese football and, as you know, he will be with us for six months. The agreement with Benfica is to have him with the first team. He’s a first team member for all the effects.”

Later, the Portuguese player addressed the media and said that he’s hopeful of playing in Spain, “Everything is fine. I met some colleges that were at Benfica with me and the rest of the squad has welcomed me. I come after playing in the second league of Portugal and I’m ready to yield in this league.”

“I already talked to the coach. I will try to do my best. I know that Deportivo is a good team. They don’t deserve to be where they are right now and I will fight to put it in a better position. I want to seize this opportunity and give everything. I want to be happy.” He added

Hélder clarified his preferred position on the pitch, “I feel more comfortable on the right side; thus I can dribble towards both sides. The coach already knows that I can play at both sides.”
