THINKING OF GRANADA CF

23 Jan 2015
Hélder Postiga is the only player training apart at Deportivo ahead of the important game against Granada CF. Cavaleiro and Fariña are ready to return, while Hélder Costa and Celso Borges are waiting to debut.

There’s a smile on the face of coach Víctor Fernández in this start of the second round. The reason is that the team is making signings and the injured players are coming back. The first team is now composed by 26 players and from this large list only one man is out ahead of the home clash against Granada CF (Sunday, 12h00 CET).

The only man out for Sunday is striker Hélder Postiga. The Portuguese attacker should return to train in two weeks after the surgery to correct his groin injury. The rest of the team is okay and training at Abegondo.

Attacker Iván Cavaleiro had to be replaced at half-time of the game against FC Barcelona due to an adductor muscle injury on his left thigh, but by Thursday the Portuguese was back training with the group and will be available for Sunday. He’s the only man at Deportivo that participated in the 19 matches of the first round.

Playmaker Luis Fariña picked a stress fracture injury during the game against Athletic Club (January 03), and he joined the group this week and completed three training sessions without problems. The Argentine player hasn’t received the medical okay to play, but he should be fine for the weekend and the doctors would give him the green light on Friday or Saturday.

Meanwhile, other two players that have been dragging injuries recently are wingers Diogo Salomão and Lucas Pérez. Both men have trained with normality during the week and are available for the coach.

About the three winter singings, striker Oriol Riera is ready to repeat his role as a starter, centre midfielder Celso Borges is fit though the club hasn’t completed the paperwork to inscribe the player at the LFP. On Wednesday advisor Fernando Vidal assured that it’s a matter of hours. Finally, the last signing Hélder Costa is training with the first team since Wednesday and is also available for the game.

Granada CF are in a delicate situation, the negative mark of fifteen straight matchdays without victories caused the exit of Joaquín Caparrós. New boss Abel Resino arrived at the beginning of the week and will debut at the Riazor. The match against Depor is considered as a final; so much that between Wednesday and Friday the club arranged a concentration for the first team in Marbella.

Three players are already out of Sunday’s game. Right-back Allan-Roméo Nyom is out suspended after picking the fifth yellow card on the season, while ex-Depor attacker Riki (stress fracture) and centre-back Jeison Murillo (toe) are out injured.

Also, Alfredo Ortuño, who gave a lot of problems to Depor in the first round and also when he was playing with Girona FC, has been transferred to UD Las Palmas. Cameroonian Dany Nounkeu cancelled his contract on Thursday as he wasn’t getting minutes, the centre-back is now close to join French side Évian FC.

Centre midfielders Eddy Silvestre (muscle) and Héctor Juste (quadriceps), plus winger Daniel Larsson (knee) are doubtful after skipping Thursday’s training. Meanwhile, midfielder Fran Rico (muscle), striker Jhon Córdoba (groin) and playmaker Rubén Rochina (adductor) should be available after been out for a couple of weeks, the latter scored one of the two goals in their 2-1 win of the first round.

The Andalusian club, thanks to their connections with Udinese Calcio, has made four signings in the winter window: Argentine left-back Emanuel Insúa, ex-Depor midfielder Rubén Pérez, plus wingers Lass Bangoura and Robert Ibáñez.  The last two already debuted with the team. More signings are expected before the closure of the winter window.
