Deportivo will face important casualties ahead of the visit to the Bernabéu. Sidnei won’t be available and Salomão is doubtful. The Madrilenians are also having casualties and arrive after the big loss before Atlético.

Calm in A Coruña after Deportivo chained two straight victories in liga. The team is now at mid-table and seems to follow an ascending line, though the next game is one of the hardest of the season as the Galicians visit Real Madrid (Santiago Bernabéu stadium, Saturday, 18h00 CET).

After a two-day break, the team returned to train on Monday, but as it has happened in recent weeks Monday’s training was only a session to see the normal substitutes playing a friendly game against Depor B/Juvenil A, which was won by the first team with a 3-2 score (hat-trick by Toché and brace by Fabril’s Álex Pérez).

So, in the end the team will only have four training sessions to prepare the meeting. Coach Víctor Fernández is having five confirmed casualties for the meeting. Centre midfielder José Rodriguez is out for the second straight week, this time as Real Madrid is his parent club and Deportivo won’t pay the fee to allow his participation in the game.

The other four players are out for injury reasons. Centre-back Sidnei Rechel is out with a Soleus injury since last week, the Brazilian was supposed to return on this week, but remained training apart and the coaching staff won’t rush his recovery.  Striker Hélder Postiga is now training apart after his Lumbago surgery and might join the group on next week.

Meanwhile, playmaker Luis Fariña started to work at the gym after been discharged from hospital on last Thursday. His skin infection is under treatment and the player has to wait until the wound on his right foot is healed in order to be cleared to play. The Argentine started to make some exercises on the pitch during Wednesday’s session and remains doubtful for the derby on next week.

The other player out of the meeting is Diogo Salomão. Two weeks ago Víctor stated that the player had only spent a couple of weeks training with the group and that didn’t have enough confidence on his operated knee, and on this week the winger picked a Soleus muscle injury on his right thigh, so he will remain out of the roster as he didn’t train with the group on Tuesday and Wednesday.

During the week keeper German Lux had flu, reason why he missed Tuesday and Wednesday session, while Luisinho didn’t train on Monday as he was dragging a knock from the previous game against SD Eibar, but the duo is fine and will be available for Saturday’s match.

Real Madrid arrive to the meeting as the league leaders, but are living a tense week. The latest 0-4 loss at Atlético Madrid launched the anger from the fans; mostly after it was known that Cristiano Ronaldo held a party that night to celebrate his birthday. It was reported that during Tuesday’s session there was a signboard with the legend “your laughs, our shame” while president Florentino Pérez visited the team and had a two-hour meeting with the players. So, part of the attention on Saturday will be focused on the reaction at the stands.

Coach Carlo Ancelotti is pending to make key decisions for the game. On next midweek his team starts the knockout stage of the UEFA Champions League facing FC Schalke 04, the Italian man has to decide whether to keep playing with the normal starters or to make rotations, always having in mind that Ronaldo is having issues on his left knee (same problem that sidelined him at the end of last season).

Ancelotti is having five casualties for Saturday, all of them due to injury reasons: centre-backs Sergio Ramos (torn hamstring) and Pepe (bruised rib), plus centre midfielders Sami Khedira (hamstring), Luka Modrić (thigh) and James Rodríguez (toe fracture).

Centre-back Raphael Varane and centre midfielder Asier Illarramendi picked knocks during the game against Atlético and missed Monday’s training, while striker Javier Hernández worked at the gym during Wednesday, but they should be available to face Depor. Meanwhile, centre midfielder Lucas Silva, the second most expensive signing in the winter window, could be making his debut in liga taking advantage of the casualties at the centre of the field.
