Diogo Salomão is one of the two players at the first team that hasn’t played yet any minute in liga. The Portuguese winger received the medical okay in December, but two months later he’s lacking confidence to perform on the pitch.

Deportivo are still waiting for Diogo Salomão .  The Portuguese winger was re-signed for this season in a new loan spell after sustaining an injury with the team competing in Segunda at the beginning of the past year. It was known that he would be ready to train until November, but what wasn’t expected is that, by this stage of the season, the player is still pending to debut in liga.

Firstly things were gradually moving up. Salomão joined the trainings with the group in November, one month later he received the medical okay to play and performed for 22 minutes in the Copa clash with Malaga CF after replacing Luisinho (December 18). Depor left a pale impression, but the return of the left winger was good news for a team lacking offensive players.

The winger continued with his progression and, in the first game of 2015, he was on the bench for the league meeting against Athletic Club (January 3). But since then things have radically changed. Coach Víctor Fernández didn’t pick him for the following seven liga meetings and there were a lot of questions about the matter.

Before the game with UD Levante (January 9), the coach explained that the player was out due to a physical issue (swollen knee), a problem that affected his confidence as he feared a relapse from his knee injury, “He doesn’t see himself ready, neither us. That’s the problem. We are in a sad phase in which the lad doesn’t see himself ready to play.”

But by the end of the month there was no report of an injury and this time the coach told to journalists that the reason why he was out of the games was related to a tactical issue, ”Salomão has been training for the past two weeks, but there’s a tactical issue: we play on the road [visit to Rayo Vallecano] and if we suffer an injury with a side defender then I need to choose someone for the position and I prefer the option of Laure. He’s fine physically, but we have a lot of specialists for the wings and it isn’t easy to enter into the roster.”

And a new injury appeared a fortnight ago, The Portuguese winger got injured during a training session, the scans revealed that he was dragging a grade 1 Soleus muscle injury on his right thigh.  He was ruled out from the games with Real Madrid and RC Celta. And will also miss the visit to UD Almeria as the player is still training apart.

So, after six months of competition the fans are still waiting to see Salomão performing in the league and at the Riazor. Currently he’s one of the two players at the first team that still have to debut in the league tournament, the other is centre-back Borja López, who just landed at the club in the last days of the winter window.
