FABRIL: THE CHANCES FOR THE PLAYOFFS

18 Mar 2015
Depor B are third at the standings and target to end second, though there are several clubs in the race and many direct meetings with only nine games remaining in the schedule.

With nine matchdays left in the calendar, nothing is decided in the Galician group of Tercera División. The last defeat of Fabril –the seventh on the season- didn’t mean to lose the chances to participate in the playoffs as the team coached by Manu Mosquera remains third, but it makes now almost impossible to end at the first place and is also extending the confirmation on the participation in the promotion playoff.

To remember that to end first means the chance to reach Segunda División B through only one round against another group champion, while to end second, third or fourth demands to pass three rounds to get the goal.  Currently Depor B are eleven points behind leaders Pontevedra CF, so with only 27 points still in dispute the chances are really low to be crowned as group champions, especially taking in mind that Pontevedra CF is a solid team that only lost six team on this season.

So, the most realistic goal is to target the second place. CCD Cerceda are only three points away, though they won the series on this season, meaning that Depor need to make four more points compared to them before ending the tournament. To end second means to face a more accessible calendar in the playoffs as the team will have to face a fourth place from another group in the first round avoiding a group champion until the end.

But neither the presence in the playoffs is totally certain. Fabril are only three points behind fourth place Ribadumia CF and fifth place CD Choco, while sixth place Rápido de Bouzas and other five teams are also alive in the race. Up to ten clubs are fighting for four spots in the playoffs.

The interesting part is that there are several direct meetings before ending the season. Fabril will play five of the last nine games at Abegondo, and still have to face Arosa SC, CD Choco and Club Rápido de Bouzas –curiously the last three games in the schedule-

CCD Cerceda and Ribadumia CF also have to face Arosa SC and CD Choco, with CCD Cerceda also facing Pontevedra CF in the last matchday, so anything can happen before the end. It’s deceiving to predict how many points are needed to qualify, mainly as there are many direct meetings that can change the outcome. A good thing for Depor B is that the team will face the end of season without injury concerns and only focused in this goal as the first team isn’t needing the services of the lads.
