THE INTERNATIONAL PLAYERS

02 Apr 2015
Not a good week for the international players as they didnít have an impact in their teams. Celso Borges and Sam Piette were the ones that played more time, while IvŠn Cavaleiro only played for 45 minutes.

Four players from the first team had a participation with their national teams during the international break: Jorge Rodriguez, IvŠn Cavaleiro, Celso Borges and Haris Medunjanin. At the same time a member of Deportivo B was also involved in the break: Sam Piette.

The true is that it wasnít a good week for them, because they didnít have an impact with their teams and in the major part of the cases the results werenít positive. Borges and Piette played two complete games with their national teams and therefore were the players with more action, while Cavaleiro was the man with the smaller participation as he only played 45 minutes in two games.

JOSE RODRIGUEZ

The 20-year-old midfielder was picked for the first time by U-21 Spain, team coached by Albert Celades. The team played two friendly games and clinched victories before U21 Norway (2-0) and U21 Belarus (4-0). Deporís player was a starter in the first match and played the final 28 minutes in the second, always performing as one of the two centre midfielders.

However the attention was focused in Deulofeu, who was the most determinant player in both matches, against U21 Belarus he participated in the four goals scoring once and providing three assists. Unfortunately U21 Spain was already eliminated from the UEFA U21 tournament and the run for the Olympic Games, so for now Celades is just testing players ahead of future competitions.

IVŃN CAVALEIRO

The 21-year-old attacker had an unusual week with Portugal. He was initially picked by the U21 squad for a couple of friendlies and after the first game he ended landing at the senior team. He firstly played the first 45 minutes in the 0-0 draw before U21 Denmark and had a decent performance as a second striker playing towards the left wing, he had two chances to score, completed one shot on target and one accurate cross that Bernardo Silva headed out.

Then, on Friday, he was picked by Fernando Santos as he decided to give rest to several players after the 2-1 win over Serbia as part of the UEFA Euro 2016 qualifiers. Players like Ricardo Carvalho, Bruno Alves, Tiago, Jo„o Moutinho, Nani, Danny, Ricardo Quaresma and Cristiano Ronaldo were released and Cavaleiro was picked in order to fill the gaps for the friendly against Cape Verde.

And the senior team of Portugal was surprised in that friendly as they unexpectedly lost 0-2 playing in Estoril. Despite the team was full of young players and despite been losing since the first half, Fernando Santos didnít give the opportunity to Deporís attacker and he stayed the full game on the bench.

CELSO BORGES

Costa Rica could be one of the surprises in the upcoming Gold Cup 2015 after their great World Cup in Brazil. New boss Wanchope is preparing the team for the event and arranged two friendly meetings before Paraguay (0-0) and Panama (1-2), but it wasnít a good week for them after missing aim against the South American side and later suffering their first defeat since the World Cup.

In both games Borges was a starter acting as one of the two centre midfielders in a 4-2-3-1 formation. In the first meeting he was the partner of Yeltsin Tejeda and in the second he performed alongside David GuzmŠn. Against Paraguay, Celso passed unnoticed and against Panama, he had a difficult first half with the team losing 0-2 by minute 25, but Deporís midfielder changed the game in the second half together with Saborio though it wasnít enough to avoid the defeat.

HARIS MEDUNJANIN

Despite not been a normal starter at Depor, Medunjanin was picked by Bosnia & Herzegovinaís new coach Mehmed Baědarević after the disastrous start in the UEFA Euro 2016 qualifying round under the command of Safet Suöić. The Bosnians only played one official game in the international break and was a convincing 0-3 win over Andorra.

That was only the first win for the Bosnians in the tournament after five games. The hero in the match was Děeko with his hat-trick. Haris was on the bench and entered at minute 77 when things were already decided. Later Bosnia & Herzegovina played a friendly visiting Austria (1-1). Medunjanin was a starter and didnít have a good performance acting as a midfielder playing towards the right wing.

The true is that the whole Bosnian team didnít have a good performance in the first half, later Baědarević made changes in the second part and his team improved a lot. One of the modifications was the exit of Deporís midfielder at minute 53. In both games the coach used a 4-4-2 figure and has clearly chose Vröajević and Pjanić as his references at midfield.

SAM PIETTE

Canada are preparing their participation in the Gold Cup 2015 and Spanish coach Benito Floro is trying to build up a team with young players mixed with a couple of veterans like ex-Depor Julian De GuzmŠn. In this sense he picked several young players performing in foreign leagues and one of them was Fabrilís Sam Piette.

The Canadian side played two friendlies in America, firstly facing Guatemala in California (1-0) and later visiting Puerto Rico (3-0). Piette played the 90 minutes in both games acting in the same roles that he fulfills at Depor B: the defensive midfielder that starts the plays from the back and that hold on in defense when the team is attacking. He had a decent performance in both meetings, mainly before Guatemala, match in which he was the lonely midfielder in a 4-1-4-1 figure.
