THINKING OF GETAFE & CÓRDOBA

03 Apr 2015
Two games for Deportivo in a matter of three days. There are four casualties for the first game against Getafe, while there is the doubt with Celso Borges, who will join the trainings until Friday.

The crucial part of the season is about to start, with six games in the next 24 days, Deportivo need to add points before direct rivals for the permanence. The first test is the visit to Getafe CF (Sunday, Coliseum Alfonso Pérez, 19h00 CET), which will be followed by the home meeting with Córdoba CF (Wednesday, Riazor, 20h00 CET).

The first team will complete six training sessions before the game against Getafe CF and the week is considered so important that president Tino Fernández decided to visit Abegondo early in the week in order to show his support to the coaching staff.

Coach Víctor Fernández is having four casualties for the first game. Three of them are injured players: Cezary Wilk, Hélder Postiga and Diogo SalomãoWilk and Salomão remain out of the training pitch, while Postiga started on this week his recovery process working on the grass, but won’t be available before May.

The other casualty for the match against Getafe CF is Albert Lopo, who is suspended after picking a fifth yellow card in the past game against RCD Espanyol. There are other three players at the edge of suspension that could miss the game with Córdoba CF if they are booked on Sunday, all of them are attackers: Lucas, Pérez, Iván Cavaleiro and Toché.

Other four players have skipped some training sessions for been in international action. José Rodríguez joined the group on Wednesday, while one day later Cavaleiro and Medunjanin joined the group.

Celso Borges returned to A Coruña until Thursday’s night and will join the training on Friday. There’s some concern about his physical condition as the midfielder picked an injury in the game against Espanyol and later played two full games with Costa Rica, so the coach could be tempted to rest him for the first game.

Other players have faced physical problems during the week, but should be available for Sunday and Wednesday. Isaac Cuenca was dragging a thigh concussion from last week, but he was already fine on Monday, while Oriol Riera and Toché picked knocks that won’t prevent their participation in the games. Lopo, who is suspended against Getafe, has been rested due to a back problem, while Borja López skipped two sessions due to illness.

Apart from David Gómez, the other player from Depor B that has trained with the first team was centre midfielder Álvaro Queijeiro. Winger Miguel Cardoso was renewed on this week, but wasn’t invited to train with the senior team.

The first rival on the week is Getafe CF; coach Pablo Franco Martín arrived last month after the surprising exit of Quique Sánchez Flores. This is only his third game on board. There are two confirmed casualties for the game: attackers Abdoul Yoda and Ángel Lafita, precisely the goal scorers in the first round game against Depor. They suffered knee injuries and are out for the rest of the campaign.

There are other two players doubtful for Sunday: defender Juan Valera and centre midfielder Mehdi Lacen, the later suffered a muscle injury during the international break. Both haven’t trained during the week and it isn’t probable that they will be available. At least left-back Roberto Lago and centre-back Alexis Ruano are available again after been out injured.

Meanwhile, the second rival on the week, Córdoba CF, is also living its first weeks with a new coach José Antonio Romero, who is trying to revert a negative streak of nine straight defeats. On this weekend they face Atlético Madrid and have big problems in defence as Aleksandar Pantic, Íñigo López and Daniel Pinillos are all suspended.

The trio will be back to face Deportivo and will also recover full-back Edimar Fraga (muscle), playmaker Fede Vico (groin) and attacker Nabil Ghilas (ankle). So, for now the only player that won’t be available for the game at the Riazor is centre-back Iago Bouzón (hip).
