Exciting matchday that left interesting things at the standings, including the third best scoring record on this season. The fight for the title is on fire, so the fight to survive at the elite of Spanish football.

33 goals were scored in matchday 31, the highest mark in 2015 and the third highest on this season just below matchday 04 (41) and matchday 07 (37). The news at the top of the standings is that Real Madrid reduced to only two points the difference with leaders FC Barcelona.

The Catalans were visiting Sevilla CF, a tough game, but they had things under control as they were winning 0-2 after only 30 minutes, but the Andalusians pulled two goals to rescue a point. Meanwhile Real Madrid dispatched SD Eibar at the Bernabéu (3-0).

The fight for the third place, and last direct ticket to the Champions League, was also revitalized as Atlético Madrid barely saved a point in their visit to Malaga CF (2-2), while Valencia CF trashed relegation-troubled Levante UD playing at Mestalla (3-0). Only one point separates the Madrilenians from the Valencians.

Villarreal CF are losing stamina in the quest to end sixth, they haven’t won any of their last five games and in this weekend they could only snatch a point visiting Getafe CF (1-1). Their poor form is giving some hope to RCD Espanyol and RC Celta regarding playing in Europe on next season. The Catalans defeated Athletic Club at home (1-0), while the Galicians starred the big win of the matchday hosting Rayo Vallecano (6-1).

In the fight for the permanence the big winners were Elche CF and UD Almeria. The Valencians clinched an important 0-2 win visiting bottom club Córdoba CF and are now three points above the pit. In the case of the Andalusians they conquered a huge 3-0 win over penultimate place Granada CF, it’s only their second home win this term.

Meanwhile Deportivo rescued a point visiting Real Sociedad, the Galicians were twice behind in the scoresheet, but managed to tie the game (2-2). That point is keeping them away from the pit, though only by the goal difference as there are three teams tied with 28 point.

Crucial week for Real Madrid and FC Barcelona, both are playing the quarterfinals in Champions League and during the weekend they have tricky games. The Catalans are hosting fourth place Valencia CF, while the Madrilenians are doing the same with seventh place Malaga CF, the latter club is one of the two teams that defeated Barca at the Camp Nou on this campaign.

Depor also have a tough challenge as they host the champions and current third place Atlético Madrid. The matchday is completed with other seven games: Levante UD Vs. RCD Espanyol; Athletic Club Vs.
