Depor’s strikers continue to be the ones scoring less goals among the twenty clubs at Primera División, but at least they have netted four of the last seven goals in the league competition.

It has been a terrible year for the strikers at Deportivo, no matter the comments of previous coach Víctor Fernández about their importance in the participation of the game, the true is that their main contribution is to score goals, and so far on the season the three centre forwards at the club have only netted three goals: Toché (4), Oriol Riera (2) and Hélder Postiga (1).

It’s the worst mark among the twenty clubs at Primera División, just as a way of comparison the bottom club, Córdoba CF, have Nabil Ghilas as their main scorer and he alone netted seven goals, the same number than Depor’s attackers combined.

There are many reasons for this situation, starting with the lack of contribution in the chances created by the midfielders and wingers, plus the injuries that at some point left the coach only with one centre forward available.

But at least things seems to be improving, at the beginning of the year Depor’s attackers had only netted three goals and the number was doubled within the last month. In the last six games the Galician outfit has scored seven goals, and four of them were conquered by the strikers.

Oriol Riera was hardly criticized after spending eight straight games without scoring, but then he netted a brace though it wasn’t enough to add points before Sevilla CF (3-4, March 7), then Toché, who was injured for a month, returned and has scored twice within the last three games.

Now Postiga is about to return and for the first time on the season the three centre forwards at the team will be available at the same time. Depor need their contribution on the pitch in the quest for the permanence, but mainly their goals.
