Bittersweet day for Deportivo B, the team secured the berth in the promotion playoff, but lost a game that had under control. The lads missed to score in key moments and later allowed two goals at the end of both halves.

Bad news or coach Manu Mosquera as his best scorer, Miguel Cardoso, unexpectedly skipped the game with a hip knock. Besides, keeper David Gómez was picked by the first team for the trip to Málaga and Elche, so Portuguese Rafael Veloso was making his first appearance as a starter in 2015 (he played 7 games at the beginning of the season).

So, there were changes at the lineup, mainly in attack. Adrián Martínez was the right-back defender, Jorge Fernández performed on the left side, the centre-backs were Iago López and Róber Suárez. Sam Piette and Álvaro Queijeiro were the centre midfielders, Cañi was attacking from the right wing, Juan López was the left winger, Marcos Remeseiro was the playmaker and Dani Iglesias was the centre forward.

The rival was USD Barbadás, a team that’s practically saved as they only need a couple of more points in order to secure the permanence. The team coached by Perfecto Rodríguez ‘Peluso’ presented a lineup with several familiar faces for Deportivo, starting for former Fabril’s captain Diego Vieytes. Midfielder Jorge de Dios and attacker Hugo García were also starters, both passed through Depor’s academy.

Fabril always suffer in pitches with artificial turf and this time it wasn’t different. There were small differences between both teams at the Os Carrís field, and precisely those small differences was the factor that decided the game. The locals scored in their two big chances, while Fabril got a disallowed goal in the first part, it hit the post and later missed a big opportunity to tie the actions.

Fabril showed signs of their class as they were constantly moving the ball over the grass, the problem is that they didn’t have a clear idea of what to do after reaching midfield territory. Perhaps they missed the presence of Cardoso, though it’s also true that the novelties on the wings, Cañi and Juan López, had an acceptable performance.

So, Fabril missed some punch and to make things worse the lads failed at the moment of having the scarce opportunities to score. Cañi hit the crossbar (7’) and later Róber scored, but his goal was disallowed due to an offside (14’).

Meanwhile, Barbadás only needed one chance to claim the lead. It was a counterattack on the left wing in which Alfredo Veiga released a drilling cross, the ball went into the box, neither Veloso nor Iago cleared the danger and ex-Depor Hugo García just had to push the ball in from close range.

Nothing changed for the second part, the ball spent more time at midfield and Fabril continued missing depth despite having long ball possessions. Manu Mosquera introduced changes as Kim Woo-Hong and Álex Pérez replaced Juan López and Róber.

Cañi (50’), Remeseiro (56’) and Kim (72’) had the first attempts in this half, but their shots were blocked by local goalie Carlos Alberto Pérez ‘Berto’. The locals seemed pretty confident protecting the narrow led.

And it happened the same thing of the first part as Depor B failed a great chance to tie the game and later ended allowing the definitive goal. The big chance for Fabril was a high and accurate cross from Remeseiro that went directly into the path of Cañi, then the winger released a strong shot from the right side of the box, but his attempt was saved by ‘Berto’ (79’).

And just some minutes later Barbadás killed the game with a great goal. Midfielder Alfredo Veiga took a free-kick at the edge of the area, and it turned to be an unstoppable shot into the top-left corner of Veloso.

Thick game by Fabril, the team had the ball possession, but this time it missed to create goal opportunities and the scarce chances were wasted, while the rival only needed two plays to define the meeting. Despite the loss, the eighth on this season, the team already secured the spot in the promotion playoff, though it will hardly be as the leaders in the group as the difference with leaders Pontevedra is already of nine points with only three games remaining in the schedule. Therefore, the only thing left is to secure the second place, the next game is the home meeting against seventh place Arosa SC (Abegondo, Sunday, 17h30 CET).
