Crucial game for Depor at San Mamés; Víctor Sánchez will probably miss Juan Dominguez and Cavaleiro for the meeting. At Athletic, Ariz Aduriz will be available to face Deportivo.

Critical week for Deportivo; the team needs a positive result in the visit to Athletic Club (San Mamés, Saturday, 22h00 CET). The Galicians are only one point away from salvation, but with only three matchdays remaining the margin is small.

Last week there was some tension between the fans and the players, firstly a group of fans gathered in the training pitch at Abegondo after the 0-4 loss at Elche CF and ended insulting Álex Bergantiños, later a member of the Riazor Blues pushed Lucas Pérez after the game against Villarreal CF held at the Riazor as the playmaker was trying to give his shirt to another fan.

But on this week the situation has been cooler at Abegondo. The team has trained and the environment has been less tense, there was even a barbecue on Wednesday. Just the normal background, though there’s a lot at stake and the players are aware of it.

Coach Víctor Sánchez could end missing three players for Saturday’s game. Cezary Wilk (toe fracture) remains off, though last week he began to train on the pitch. Meanwhile Juan Dominguez and Iván Cavaleiro are doubtful. Both men haven’t trained on this week and will hardly be ready for Saturday.

The Galician midfielder picked a soleus injury in the game against Elche CF and already skipped the meeting with Villarreal CF. In the case of the Portuguese attacker he was a last-minute casualty for last Saturday’s meeting due to a Lumbago problem.

Albert Lopo was replaced at the end of the game against Villarreal CF due to a muscle problem; he skipped the first training in the week, but by Wednesday he was already training with the group, so he will be available for the visit to San Mamés.  Álex Bergantiños and Juanfran picked knocks during the last training sessions, but the duo will be fit to play against Athletic.

Cavaleiro & Juan Dominguez trained apart on Wednesday

Álex & Lucas on Tuesday. Both players had tense situations with the fans on last week

Manuel Pablo is pushing for a new presence at the starting eleven

Wilk is training on the pitch since last week

Lopo joined the trainings on Wednesday and is available for the coach

At Athletic Club, the Basque team is barely holding the seventh place in la liga after the failures from Malaga CF, RCD Espanyol and RC Celta, so the Basques need the victory in order to solidify their European aspirations.

Coach Ernesto Valeverde is boosted by the fact that striker Ariz Aduriz, midfielder Beñat Etxebarria and left-back Mikel Balenziaga surpassed their injuries and joined the group during Tuesday’s training, Aduriz is the main threat in attack for the Basques (15 goals plus 2 assists)

At the same time Valverde will miss three players due to injury reasons: winger Iker Muniain (knee ligaments), right-back Andoni Iraola (muscle issue) and left winger Ibai Gómez (shoulder injury).

The fourth and final casualty for the game is 23-yer-old Unai Bustinza, who was sent off in the last game with Atlético. Bustinza was replacing Iraola at the right side of the defence, now Valverde will have to improvise on that position, probably with Óscar de Marcos.
