TACTICS: THE MISSING LINK

22 May 2015
Víctor seems to have a clear idea of how to play against FC Barcelona. The main problem is to decide who should play at the left-back positon as Luisinho is suspended and Manuel Pablo is injured.

Big challenge for Deportivo as the Galicians need a positive result at the home of the new champion FC Barcelona. If they fail then they will have to rely in seeing both UD Almeria and SD Eibar also failing in their matches.

Coach Víctor Sánchez Del Amo has a big problem for the meeting, it’s located at the left-back position. Luisinho is suspended after picking the tenth yellow on the season and Manuel Pablo is injured (hamstring strain).

On Thursday the coach tested with Hélder Costa on that position, but clearly the role at the Camp Nou will be for Roberto Canella. It is what the coach admitted in an interview at Radio Cadena Ser.

The Asturian has only played nine games on this season (eight in liga and one in Copa Del Rey). The doubt cones with his inactivity, because the former captain of Sporting Gjjón hasn’t played any minute in 2015. His last appearance on the lawn was to perform the full 90 minutes visiting Villarreal CF (December 21). Five months later he has to face the toughest exam of the season.

Despite that big doubt, Víctor seems to have a clear idea of how to play against Barcelona. On Thursday he started to test the possible lineup and he points out to a scheme with three centre midfielders. The draw could be a 4-5-1 or a 4-3-3. The defense would be the same with the novelty of Canella.

At midfield the coach has tested a ‘trivote’ with Juan Dominguez, Celso Borges and Álex Bergantiños. Then, in attack, Diogo Salomão and Iván Cavaleiro were performing on the wings, while Lucas Pérez was the centre forward.

In this case the draw would be a 4-5-1. Another variant tested during the training session was to play with Toché and Oriol Riera joining Lucas Pérez in attack, in this case the draw would be a 4-3-3.

These tests aren’t definitive. On Friday, the team will train twice behind closed doors at the Riazor. In the morning the coach will release the roster for the game, and later in the afternoon only the 18/19 men picked will train at the stadium.

Despite the coach will release a roster the club already announced that the full squad will travel to Barcelona. The players in the roster will be concentrated in a hotel since Friday’s night, later they will be joined by the rest of the squad before making the trip to Catalonia.
