Sidnei Rechel is the best signing of the season 2014/15. The Brazilian was a fixed starter all season long and was a reference at defence. He was also the second player with more minutes.

After watching what he did for RCD Espanyol, there was the sense that Sidnei Rechel was going to be an important player for Deportivo when he was signed on deadline day during the past summer. At the time coach Víctor Fernández only had Insua and Lopo for the centre of the defence.

And the Brazilian defender proved that the expectations were right as he went directly into the starting eleven and only missed four games since his arrival (two for injury reasons and two for suspension). For this reason he was the second player with more minutes on the season (2,879), only behind Luisinho (2,991).

Despite Deportivo lived ups and downs throughout the season, Sidnei had a solid performance acting as one of the centre-backs. There are several stats that demonstrate it, and not only comparing him to the rest of the team, but to the rest of la liga outfits. Sidnei was the seventh player at Primera with more clearances (205), and the fifth with more interceptions (108).

Sidnei is also remembered for his offensive moves, because it was normal to see him joining the attacks, not only searching to finalize the set-pieces, but in solo moves in which he ran long distances dribbling the rivals and trying to surpass their defenses. In this sense it isn’t surprise to see him as the 9th player at the team with more dribbles (29), even more than other offensive players like Postiga (13).

He always tried to score a goal, but ended the campaign scoreless. At least he was able to provide two assists (both at the Riazor playing against Granada CF and Atlético Madrid).  The peña members of RCDLC.com always liked the solid performance of Sidnei, who despite not earning any POM (player of the month) managed to end second in the general voting, just behind Fabricio.
