THE IMPORTANCE OF A ‘LOCAL’ PRE-SEASON

30 Jun 2015
Deportivo will only leave Galicia during the pre-season in order to play a couple of friendly games in Portugal; after the hard criticism saw on last year the club is now betting on a more “local” preparation stage.

Last season Deportivo were criticized after the team accepted the offer from the LFP and completed an inopportune Colombian tour that turned to be annoying and that affected the preparation of the team for the regular season.

Fernando Vázquez was fired just one week before and Víctor Fernández had to fly to South America with only three reinforcements and with several players from the academy. Later, when the results didn’t arrive, Víctor Fernández himself blamed the preparation stage for the delay and assured that the team that he wanted to see was going to arrive before the end of 2014.

That team was never seen, but the complications caused by the long trip –the team spent one week in Colombia- during the pre-season was still pointed as a failure as one of the causes for the agony in the league tournament.

Now Deportivo prepared a more “local” approach as the team will barely leave Galicia during the pre-season. It will train for a week at Abegondo and later will complete a stage at the Hotel & golf club Guitiriz in Lugo, only 30 minutes away from A Coruña.

Besides, the major part of the friendly games will be played in Galicia, president Tino Fernández announced some weeks ago that the team will play in Portugal too, but those will mean a short trip and even said that it shouldn’t be  considered as a “tour”.

For new boss Víctor Sánchez the main thing is the stage at Guitiriz, because it will be the base that will solidify the rest of the season. That’s why he was requesting to have the 90% of the team ready for that dates (between July 6 & 17).
