REVIEW: SILVA 3 – FABRIL 1 (TERCERA)

24 Nov 2015
Third defeat on the season for Depor B; the lads lasted in getting used to the flooded pitch and, just when they seemed ready to win the game, they ended conceding two goals in four minutes.

BEFORE THE GAME
Right-back/centre-back Quique Fornos was out injured, so Canadian Ben Fisk was once again performing at the right side of the defence. Borja Domingo was finally recovered and was sat on the bench.

Coach Manu Mosquera presented a 4-2-3-1 formation. David Gómez was the keeper, Fisk played at the right side in defense, Lucas Viña performed on the left, the centre-backs were Iago López and Róber Suárez. Edu Expósito and Santi Taboada were the centre midfielders, Juan Otero was the left winger, Álex Corredera attacked from the right, Pancho Cotos was the playmaker and Óscar García was the centre forward.

The rival was A Coruña-based club Silva SD, so the match as considered as the derby of the city. Coach Esteban Varela is doing a great season with his team as they are close to the first places. Silva are full of ex-Fabril players, in this meeting four of them were starters: Toni Insua, Sergio Cardelle, Jorge Callón and Sergio Pereira.

THE MATCH
Fabril were unable to overcome the adversities faced in this game, the poor conditions of the pitch delayed the good game by both sides, and when Fabril were playing better, and with a 1-1 in the scoresheet, the team allowed two goals in two lack of concentrations that were too much for the lads.

The game was played in a flooded pitch and under the rain that at times became hail, factors that explain why the first part was boring. Both teams were relying in long throws that ended in nothing, so it was impossible to see players like Corredera, Otero or Óscar showing their conditions.

The only opportunities witnessed in the first part were a long-range shot by Cardelle 88’) and another one of Edu Expósito that also missed the target (28’). Without the quality players shinning, the one that claimed a starring role was Lucas Viña. The left-back made a solid job and the main danger were coming with his penetrations and crosses. The first one was a long run that ended with a crossed shot that missed the target (36’).

The picture totally changed for the second part, because there were four goals in a matter of fifteen minutes. But it wasn’t because both teams started to play better, but because they learned how to seize the rival’s errors.

Thus came the first goal, Iago López failed in the output of the ball and Brais García seized the occasion to assist Marcos Gómez, who didn’t fail in the one-on-one before David Gómez.

But Fabril reacted quickly with its best man on the pitch: Lucas Viña. The left-back made a great play on the left and released a cross that Pancho Cotos headed into the net. Depor B lived their best moments after the equalizer, a new cross from Viña was close to end in a goal, but this time Otero sent the ball wide (56’) and two minutes later local goalie Guillermo saved his team in a one-on-one before the Colombian attacker.

But the game changed in a blink of an eye; and it’s that Silva scored twice in a matter of four minutes. All thanks to Brais and the errors of Fabril. First Otero lost the ball at midfield and the counterattack ended with Brais scoring the second for the locals with a chipping attempt, truly the goal shouldn’t have counted as Otero lost the ball due to a hard tackle by a rival.

Then the same Brais seized a new error in a corner-kick, the drilling cross surprised the whole defense and Brais was there to push the ball, it hit Edu Expósito before going in, but the referee gave the goal to Brais.

The burden was too much for Fabril, coach Mosquera risked allowing the return of Borja Domingo, plus the entries of Marcos Legaz and Bamba, but there was no reaction, actually Silva were closer to score a fourth goal with a crossed shot by substitute Diego Cuesta (84’).

The team knew how to overcome the pitch conditions and the first disadvantage in the scoresheet, but later fell down after allowing two goals in a matter of four minutes.
