PREVIEW: DEPORTIVO VS EIBAR (LIGA)

19 Dec 2015
Last home game in 2015; Víctor makes changes, including the draw and the return of Mosquera, as he tries to stay living in Europe. The rival arrives trying to learn the lesson from last season and with in-form Borja Bastón.

STATISTICS: PROBLEMS AT HALF-TIME
SD Eibar is the Primera team that has dropped more points in the second half after 15 matchdays. The Basques have lost 12 points so far under these circumstances; they never earned any point in a second part and only once they were trailing by half-time, it was for the home game against Real Madrid (November 29), match they were losing 0-1 after the first 45 minutes and that ended 0-2

Meanwhile Depor have dropped seven points in the second halves (away games at Granada CF, Levante UD and Málaga CF, plus the home meeting with Sevilla CF), but also rescued five points in this frame of the meetings against Real Betis, Athletic Club, Atlético Madrid and FC Barcelona.

Los Armeros arrive to this match as the 7th best visitor, with nine points added after seven visits. They only lost visiting FC Barcelona (3-1) and Real Sociedad (2-1). In the case of Depor, the Galicians are only the 13th best home team in liga after adding ten points in seven home clashes. Their only two victories were achieved against RCD Espanyol (3-0) and RC Celta (2-0).

An important stat for the game is that striker Lucas Pérez will try to tie the best scoring streak in the history of Deportivo. The attacker has netted goals in six straight liga matchdays, only one less than Bebeto, who netted eleven goals in seven straight matches during the season 1992/93.

DEPORTIVO: MOSQUERA RETURNS
In just 14 matchdays Pedro Mosquera has turned to be the motor of Deportivo, a player that sometimes it isn’t noticed, but that’s important as he controls the game of the team. He is the player with more passing attempts (730) and the one with the best passing ratio (83.2%).

The Galician midfielder is one of the favourite players of the fans and the board of directors know that he is important, to the point that they are already negotiating a new contract, including a new salary and a new release clause, despite he just signed his current deal four months ago.

After missing his first liga game on the season due to a suspension, Mosquera returns and is one of the expected three changes at the starting formation. Coach Víctor Sánchez is switching the draw into a 4-2-3-1.

German Lux is the starting keeper, Juanfran Moreno delays his position in order to perform at the right side of the defense, this since Laure is suspended. The Madrilenian picked a knock during the last training, but will be available for the match. Fernando Navarro performs on the left side, while the central positions are for Sidnei Rechel and Alejandro Arribas.

Álex Bergantiños joins Mosquera at midfield, then Fede Cartabia attacks from the right wing. The last appearance in liga for the Argentine was for the visit to UD Levante (November 7). Luisinho will be covering the left wing, Fayçal Fajr will be the playmaker and Lucas Pérez will be the centre forward.

The club reported on Thursday that centre-back Albert Lopo suffered a grade-2 muscle injury on the Soleus muscle of his left leg, he could be off for two months. And with midfielder Cani unable to surpass an ankle injury, it means that the coach has seven casualties for the match. Apart from suspended Laure there are six men injured, the other men at the injury room are: Celso Borges, Jonás Gutiérrez, Fabricio Agosto and Oriol Riera.

In order to cover the absence of Lopo, Víctor decided to pick Róber Suárez in order to be the centre-back at the bench. The 20-year-old player is the first Depor B field player picked for a liga game on the season (goalkeepers Anxo Pérez and David Gómez were picked in the past), he already played as starter in both legs in Copa before UE Llagostera.

Arribas was saying that it’s an important match to continue securing the permanence, ”Our desire is at the peak, we are more eager than against Barcelona, because this is our game, we can get to 26 points, a figure very important that paves the way to salvation and we know it’s among the most important games on the season. We play before our fans and we are not relaxed or anything like that."

List of picked players (18): Lux, Manu (goalkeepers); Manuel Pablo, Arribas, Sidnei, Róber, Juanfran, Navarro (defenders); Álex Bergantiños, Mosquera, Juan Domínguez, Cartabia, Fayçal Fajr, Cardoso, Luisinho (midfielders); Lucas Pérez, Luis Alberto & Jonathan Rodríguez (attackers)

EIBAR: LESSON LEARNED?
One year ago SD Eibar were 9th at the standings with 20 points and were starting to be considered as the “surprise” of the season, but the label disappeared after a terrible second round that left them in relegation, a condition that was only saved by the demotion of Elche CF due to their financial problem. Now the Basque team is 8th at the standings with 21 point and people are starting to ask if something similar could happen again.

It’s a valid question taking in mind that the team seems to be running out of gas after only picking two of the last twelve points in dispute. They want to return to winning ways and were reinforced during the week after coming back from a 0-3 deficit in Copa before Segunda side SD Ponferradina.

For the second-leg coach José Luis Mendilibar used several normal starters and there will be changes for the match at the Riazor, the main one is important as veteran Iván Ramis is suspended and his spot at the centre of the defence will be covered by Argentine Mauro Dos Santos.

It’s predicted a 4-4-2 draw, with Asier Riesgo covering the goal, Ander Capa performs at the right side of the defence, Manuel Castellano Castro ‘Lillo’ covers the left, while Serbian Aleksandar Pantić joins Dos Santos at the central positions.

Dani García and Argentine Gonzalo Escalante are the centre midfielders, Sergio Gontán ‘Keko’ attacks from the right wing, Saúl Berjón does it from the left, while Sergio Enrich and ex-Deportivo Borja Bastón are the centre forwards.

Bastón has had impressive numbers after leaving Depor, last season he scored 23 goals in 39 Segunda matches with Real Zaragoza, and on this Primera campaign he has scored 7 goals plus providing one assist in 14 league appearances.

The Madrilenian man was talking of his exit from Deportivo, ”I don’t have clear in my mind why I didn’t continue at Depor. I was the top-scorer and we get promoted. It was weird. I left with the torn of been promoted with Depor and not been able to play there at Primera, but there are no hard feelings. I am wishing to play at the Riazor. I lived a good year there and have good memories.”

List of picked players (18): Riesgo, Irureta (goalkeepers); Capa, Lillo, Pantić, Dos Santos, Luna (defenders); Dani García, Escalante, Adrián, Barrenetxea, Keko, Saúl Berjón, Inui, Verdi, Arruabarrena (midfielders); Sergi Enrich & Borja Bastón (attackers).
