Grey game in Madrid, but Depor extended the streak to eight game unbeaten and got a point to remain living in Europe. Lux was the key player with his five saves.

Coach Víctor Sánchez sent the expected men, though it was a 4-4-2 formation, the only difference was that Fayçal Fajr was performing on the left wing and Luis Alberto was playing behind Lucas Pérez.

German Lux was the goalkeeper, Juanfran Moreno covered the right side in defence, Fernando Navarro performed at the left sector, the centre-backs were Alejandro Arribas and Sidnei Rechel. Álex Bergantiños and Pedro Mosquera were the centre midfielders, Fede Cartabia attacked from the right wing, Fajr did it from the left, while Luis Alberto performed behind Lucas.

At Getafe CF, the main novelty in the scheme of coach Fran Escribá was that Alexis Ruano was a last-minute casualty, so the spot at the centre of the defence was covered by Argentine Santiago Vergini. The references in attack were Ángel Lafita, Víctor Rodríguez and Álvaro Vázquez.

Uncomfortable first part for Depor; the Galicians started fine in the game, but later the defense had big problems trying to contain the fast moves by Getafe. Only the four key saves by Lux kept the blank sheet by half-time, though Lucas should have scored at the end of the half.

The game started with a high pace; Getafe were trying to push and Depor were responding with the counterattack. At minute 1, a deflection by Sarabia after a cross from the left was blocked by Lux. Meanwhile, Deportivo had a couple of counterattacks on the right wing, but both didn’t end with a shot on target.

Depor’s first opportunity was a shot by Mosquera from the edge of the area that went over the crossbar (6’). The first -and lonely- shot on target for the Galicians came at minute 12, Luis Alberto tried to surprise with a low shot from the edge of the area, but local goalie Vicente Guatia made the save.

The game was entertaining, with the ball spending only a few seconds at midfield as both teams were attempting fast transitions.  Depor were basing their game on the right, with Luis Alberto and Fajr switching positions and joined by the crosses released by Juanfran

Getafe, meanwhile, were attempting with fast plays through the centre and the left, like the cross by Álvaro that didn’t find a receiver inside the area (22’). Clearer was the header of Vergini after a corner-kick that was saved by Lux at the goal line (24’).

Then Depor started to suffer with the fast attacks by Getafe. At minute 31, a new low cross from the left found Víctor Rodriguez at the edge of the area, but he missed the target. Four minutes later the locals had a double chance with strong shots from inside the area by Sarabia and Damián Suárez that were saved by Lux.

Getafe were easily breaking Deportivo’s defensive line with long passes into the wings that were creating a lot of damage in a defensive line that wasn’t reacting in time. Things didn’t change too much within the last ten minutes, though Depor was the side having the best chances to score.

At minute 38, Cartabia attempted a curved shot from the edge of the area and he missed the target, and the main opportunity came before half-time. A counterattack by Deportivo was born with a long pass by Mosquera searching for Lucas, he ran 10 meters and attempted a curved shot that missed the far post. Luis Alberto was alone at the centre waiting for a possible cross.
Depor continued to have problems containing the crosses from Getafe (26 in the whole game), though the pace was low within the final fifteen minutes. Lucas had two more opportunities to score, but was unable to net a goal for the first time in eight games.

The final part started with the same script witnessed at the end of the first part: Getafe were creating a lot of problems with their attacks by the sides, while Depor were relying on the counterattack. At minute 50, Getafe had the ball inside the visiting area and attempted four shots from close range, three were blocked and the final one by Juan Rodriguez went in the opposite direction.

Depor’s first dangerous attack in the half came at minute 59, Lucas led the counterattack and assisted Fajr, who fired a shot from the edge of the area that missed the target. The locals had their first big chance at minute 63, Víctor Rodriguez got the ball at the left corner of the area and his strong shot was deflected by Lux, the ball went into the path of Álvaro, but he was offside.

Two minutes later Sarabia collected the ball at the far post, but he missed the target when he was alone before Lux. Once again the local crosses were bringing a lot of problems to Depor’s defense, and once again the locals missed aim to score a goal. Between their inaccuracy and the saves by Lux rely the main explanation why the game ended goalless.

Víctor made the first change for his team and Jonás Gutiérrez replaced Luis Alberto. At minute 70, a quick throw-in ended with Fajr assisting Lucas and the shot of the striker from the left side of the area was blocked by Guatia.

The final change at Deportivo was the entry of Cardoso replacing Cartabia. The pace was lower for the final fifteen minutes. Getafe didn’t find the same space at the sides as now the centre-backs were constantly supporting Juanfran and Navarro.

Deportivo had a final chance in the game. It was an error in the output of the ball for the Madrilenians, the action ended with Lucas firing from the edge of the area, but it was an easy catch for Guatia (84’). Lucas didn’t have the same accuracy of past meetings and went out scoreless for the first time in eight matchdays, but he completed two of the three Depor’s shots on target in this match.

One of the worst performances of Depor on this season, with the team having big problems to contain the crosses from Getafe. Only the inaccuracy from the Madrilenians plus the five key saves by German Lux kept the game goalless.

But Depor added a point that allows the Galicians to remain living at the sixth positon and extending the unbeaten streak to eight games. Deportivo kick-off the year 2016 at the Riazor entertaining Villarreal CF (Sunday, 18h15 CET).
