Depor were lucky to get the draw, the defence lacked consistency so Lux and the post did the rest. Jonás is still missing to add things, while the combination Lucas-Luis Alberto brought another goal.

The following are the eight notes from the game in Anoeta:

1- Lacking consistency in defence: Deportivo were lucky to snatch a point as it was only possible thanks to German Lux and the woodwork. What happened is that the team lacked the same defensive consistency that pushed them to be one of the teams in Europe that allows less shots per game. In this match the team allowed 15 shots (6 on target), one of the highest on the season.

It was problematic to avoid the crosses and this time the centre-backs were easily surpassed by the centre with the fast combinations by Real Sociedad. German Lux had to make five saves only in the first half, the highest number on the season. Truly the situation changed for the second part as the only shot on target was the penalty, but the defence always left the feeling that it was about to concede another goal.

2- The plan failed: Víctor chose to play with four full-backs at the starting lineup as the strategy to contain the lateral game of Real Sociedad. He already used this plan in matches like last season’s visit to Málaga CF. And the plan failed since minute 1 with the first opportunity born from the boots of Bruma.

The Basques completed 39 crosses in the game and the duo Laure-Juanfran was unable to stop Bruma. The Portuguese also made a lot of damage on the left when he switched his position, it forced both centre-backs to be overwhelmed as the lateral game also brought combinations that were ending in shot passes or volleys into the area that always found the cracks at their backs.

3- Too late with the changes: Once again Víctor lasted with the changes and only made two, truly the situation seemed under control in the second part, but by the middle of the half Depor weren’t stepping into the rival’s side of the field and the defence was needing help, to make things worse the first substitution, Jonás, just entered to commit the penalty that meant the draw. Fajr entered too late and just when the team was already overflowed.

4- The sacrifice of Laure: Despite the problems facing Bruma, Laure played a great game, completing three tackles, four interceptions and six clearances. Sometimes criticized for lacking quality, the sacrifice of Laure is something that cannot be denied.

5- The best game of Lux: If Depor picked a point it was thanks to Lux, he made six saves, five in the first half and only missed to stop the penalty. The Argentine man also had a great game against Villarreal and will continue to hold the starting role despite the arrival of Pletikosa.

6- Combination Lucas-Luis Alberto: Lucas is no longer scoring, but it doesn’t mean that he isn’t contributing to the cause. He has assisted Luis Alberto in the last two goals of Depor in liga and thus the Galician attacker has scored or assisted in 7 of the las 8 games in liga. The same combination was also close to score the second in Depor’s best opportunity in the second half. With Deportivo lacking offensive punch lately, the best opportunities are coming with Lucas and Luis Alberto assisting each other.

7- Third straight game with polemic calls by the referee: For the third straight game a polemic call by the referee is having an impact in the score. This time there were two calls, one was favourable as the goal of Iñigo Martínez shouldn’t have been disallowed as there was no offside, but later Martínez Munuera whistled a very soft penalty that meant the equalizer.

8- Grey contribution from Jonás Gutiérrez: Summer signing Jonás Gutiérrez hasn’t found a slot at Deportivo, he neither added things as a starter not coming out from the bench. In this opportunity he was very unlucky as he committed the penalty that meant the equalizer just one minute after entering the field.
