The first matchday in the second round turned to be the one with more goals on the season. The big three clubs clichéd big scores with Atlético Madrid staying as the leaders.

Rain of goals in the first matchday of the second round. 41 goals were scored, the highest number on this season, three goals above the 38 had in matchday 08. The top three teams led this race as combined they scored 14 goals.

Atlético Madrid remain as the leaders after a convincing 0-3 win visiting UD Las Palmas. It’s the fourth straight win for the Madrilenians. Runners-up FC Barcelona clinched the biggest difference in the matchday with a 6-0 win over Athletic Club. The Basques played with ten men since minute 4 after Iraizoz was sent off.

Real Madrid also clinched an easy win, 5-1 over Sporting Gijón with the score been already 3-0 by minute 12. Villarreal CF remain fourth despite a disappointing 0-0 hosting Real Betis. It was the only scoreless game in the matchday; actually the Andalusians have spent six straight games without scoring a goal and approach to relegation.

The crazy game in the matchday was the 4-3 victory of RC Celta over Levante UD. The Galicians seemed living an easy win as the score was 3-0 by minute 60, but the Valencians pulled two goals and were twice close to tie the game.

Sevilla CF clinched an important 2-1 win over Málaga CF, but SD Eibar remain as the sixth place as they defeated Granada CF at home (5-1). The Basques have now chained four straight victories and are one of the most in-form teams in the league.

None of the bottom teams were able to win their games, so the picture remains the same. The only team with a good result was Rayo Vallecano, the Madrilenians snatched a point in their visit to Valencia CF (2-2). Both teams have now spent nine matchdays without winning, which is the worst current streak in la liga.

Deportivo and Real Sociedad tied in Anoeta (1-1) and increased the distance with relegation. The Galicians are 12 points away, while the Basques are now 5 points above the pit. Getafe CF chained a third straight win with 3-1 win over RCD Espanyol, the Catalans are going down after the exit of Sergio as this is their fourth straight game without a victory.

Two teams living a good moment and aspiring to big things are colliding at the Calderón stadium, it’s the visit of Sevilla CF to Atlético Madrid and it’s the most interesting game in this matchday. The other two giants play on the road with FC Barcelona visiting Málaga CF and with Real Madrid playing at Real Betis. Deportivo face an interesting game hosting out-of-form Valencia CF.

The matchday is completed with other six games: Sporting Gijón Vs. Real Sociedad; RCD Espanyol Vs. Villarreal CF; Granada CF Vs. Getafe CF; Rayo Vallecano Vs. RCD Celta; Athletic Club Vs. SD Eibar & Levante UD Vs. UD Las Palmas.
