Three players will miss the game against Valencia due to injury reasons; Víctor returns to have plenty of time to prepare the games. The rival arrives in the middle of a lot of speculations and problems inside the club.

Things returned to “normal mode” on this week, with the team eliminated from Copa Del Rey now Deportivo only have to face one game per week until the end of the season. The routine is now different as the week is long to prepare the games and coach Victor Sánchez has more time, which allows him to increase the demand during the training sessions, as example what happened on Wednesday with the team completing an exhausting physical routine.

What the coach wants is to keep the high physical level of the team and it should be normal to witness these strong sessions at the beginning of the week, while the previous trainings to the matches will be more tactical as the coach will be preparing the strategy for the meetings.

For the upcoming game against Valencia CF (Riazor, Sunday, 18h15 CET), Víctor only has three casualties. Two are the long-term cases of goalkeeper Fabricio Agosto (knee) and centre midfielder Celso Borges (toe).

The other case is playmaker Fede Cartabia. The case of the Argentine has a double motive, first to all Valencia CF is his parent club and Depor have to pay a fee to allow him to play the game, something that won’t happen, but at the same time he is injured. The scans determined that he suffered a grade-1 muscle injury in a toe of his right foot. Cartabia will be off for a couple of weeks and will also miss the home game with Rayo Vallecano.

The rest of the team is fine, including winger Miguel Cardoso and striker Jonathan Rodríguez. The Portuguese was sick at the beginning of the week, while the Uruguayan picked a knock during Thursday’s training, but both will be available for Sunday. Centre-back Alejandro Arribas returns from suspension and is expected that he will be a starter.

At Valencia CF, the environment seems to be more focused in the possible arrivals during the winter window than of the match at the Riazor. Even the game in Copa facing UD Las Palmas was in the back line as only 10,000 tickets were sold for the first-leg. New coach Gary Neville has no new signings yet, only the arrival of former player Vicente Rodríguez and García Pitarch, the latter is the new sporting director and the other a member of the staff.

Neville will have three casualties for the game at the Riazor: goalkeeper Diego Alves (knee), winger Sofiane Feghouli (Achilles) and centre midfielder Enzo Pérez (hamstring). Other two players are doubtful after skipping the Copa game: centre midfielder Dani Parejo (hamstring) and winger Zakaria Bakkali (knock). Centre midfielder Javi Fuego skipped the game against Rayo Vallecano due to a hip problem and should be available, though Neville isn’t counting with him.
